"Con un prototipo equipaggiato con motore a idrogeno, BMW ha battuto nove record sul circuito francese di Miramas, arrivando a toccare, sul chilometro lanciato i 300,190 km/h (secondo il costruttore la vettura è in grado di raggiungere una velocità massima di 302,4 km/h).

La "H2R" utilizza un propulsore V12 di 6.0 litri che deriva dall'unità montata sulla "760i": qui eroga 210 kW-285 CV ed è in grado di far scattare la vettura da 0 a 100 all'ora in appena sei secondi. Nelle intenzione di BMW, l'arrivo di una "serie 7" a doppia alimentazione benzina/idrogeno non è molto lontano nel tempo."
