Hyundai will show a concept hybrid car in Paris based on its Santa Fe 4x4.

The Santa Fe Hybrid concept utilises a mix of a 2.4-litre petrol engine and an electric motor to reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.

Economy of 44mpg is claimed, that bettering the 26.6mpg of Hyundai's 2.7-litre petrol Santa Fe that's currently available.

Emissions for the hybrid are just 148g/km, a significant improvement over the 252g/km of the 2.7-litre V6 model.

The figures aren't so impressive when measured against Hyundai's turbodiesel Santa Fe, underlining that any potential production model would be destined for the US market only.

Driving through a six-speed automatic transmission the petrol engine is boosted by a 30kW motor powered by lithium-ion batteries.

Externally the Santa Fe Hybrid concept looks identical to its conventionally powered relatives, but Hyundai claims under the skin it is entirely different.

Although Hyundai hasn't announced any production dates it's likely that it will offer hybrid models in the next year.

Pre-Salón de París: Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid

Hace unas semanas comentábamos que Hyundai presentaría en el Salón del Automóvil de París una variante híbrida del Santa Fe, en un principio en fase experimental, pero que podría ver la luz a lo largo del segundo semestre año 2009.

Ahora podemos ampliar información comentado que cuenta con un motor eléctrico que desarrolla una potencia equivalente a 41 CV, y que combinado con el bloque convencional de 2,4 litros y 156 CV, mejora las prestaciones a la vez que reduce los consumos. Los datos homologados por Hyundai son realmente buenos: 6,2 L/100 de media, 148 g/km de CO2 en cuanto a emisiones y una velocidad máxima de 170 km/h.

Exteriormente el modelo expuesto en París se reconocerá por la decoración "Blue" -se trata de otro modelo con la etiqueta ecológica de la marca- y el techo panorámico deslizante con mando eléctrico, no disponible hasta ahora en este modelo.
