One of the most impressive looking sports car concepts of recent years - and certainly of any bearing the famous emblem of the House of Visconti, the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante by Italian coachbuilder Touring Superleggera, will be produced in an extremely limited number of examples, after receiving an official endorsement from Alfa Romeo. If you are aware of the fact that the Disco Volante, which was introduced as a concept in 2012, is built on the underpinnings of the now discontinued Alfa Romeo 8c Competizione, you'll surely be wondering where will Touring Superleggera get the donor cars from.

The company's press statement is rather vague on this matter: "Touring Superleggera delivers the complete car in six months after the Alfa Romeo 8C is made available." However, from what we understand, interested parties will have to provide their own Alfa Romeo 8c Competizione donor car, and unless they come across a rebuildable-crashed example, that's a bitter pill to swallow, as besides the $200,000 price tag of used models, we're talking about a rare exotic of which only 500 units were built (coupes).

Touring Superleggera says the price of the Disco Volante "is on demand" adding that all cars will come with a two-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, with Alfa Romeo dealers handling service and maintenance, "while Touring supplies them repair instructions and parts for the Touring-designed components and systems".

The original 1952 Alfa Romeo 1900 C52 ‘Disco Volante’ inspired the carbon fiber and aluminum bodywork of the Disco Volante, which also comes with a customized interior. The 8c's Ferrari-sourced 4.7-litre V8 engine and transaxle rear drive remains untouched (as does the weight distribution of 49:51 front to rear) offering the car a 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint time of 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 180mph (290 km/h).

E' in esposizione nello shooroom Fiat-Abarth-Alfaromeo a baker street qui a Londra: e' molto carina, tanta gente si ferma ad ammirarla

Scusate l'OT ma mi piacerebbe sapere qualcosa in più sul progetto 8c ovvero limiti, problemi, difficoltà... anche alla luce di quello che hao scritto, può essere che in termini economici è stato un progetto fallimentare?
