La storia della Jeep_® Grand Cherokee, il SUV più premiato di sempre, è iniziata circa 30 anni fa. Oggi, dopo quattro generazioni realizzate all’insegna dell’innovazione, un numero incalcolabile di riconoscimenti e circa 7 milioni di esemplari venduti in tutto il mondo, il marchio Jeep continua a ridefinire gli standard nel segmento dei SUV full size con la nuova Jeep Grand Cherokee L 2021.

 

La nuova generazione è stata progettata e realizzata per offrire la combinazione perfetta tra capacità 4x4, prestazioni su strada, stile, qualità costruttiva, contenuti tecnologici e sistemi di sicurezza avanzati. Il risultato è la nuova Jeep Grand Cherokee L 2021, che per la prima volta in assoluto può ospitare fino a sei o sette passeggeri.

Jeep Grand Cherokee L 2021 è stata progettata per offrire capacità off-road di riferimento e una dinamica di guida equilibrata. I sistemi 4x4 (Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II e Quadra-Drive II), le sospensioni pneumatiche Quadra-Lift e il sistema di gestione della trazione Select-Terrain assicurano a Grand Cherokee L le leggendarie prestazioni 4x4 del marchio Jeep. La nuova architettura e la linea aerodinamica si combinano per offrire performance, maggiore sicurezza e affidabilità, riducendo al tempo stesso il peso, la rumorosità, le vibrazioni e la rigidità. Progettata per garantire il massimo in termini di sicurezza, comfort e praticità, Grand Cherokee L presenta contenuti tecnologici e funzionalità di ultima generazione che la rendono unica nel segmento dei SUV full-size.

 

Costruita nel nuovo Assembly Complex di Detroit (Mack Plant), Jeep Grand Cherokee L 2021 arriverà negli showroom Jeep nordamericani nel secondo trimestre del 2021 e sarà disponibile in quattro diversi allestimenti: Laredo, Limited, Overland e Summit.

 

L’inizio della produzione della nuova Jeep Grand Cherokee a due file di sedili e della sua versione elettrificata 4xe è invece prevista presso lo stabilimento Mack Assembly Plant nel corso del 2021.

 

Leggendarie capacità 4x4 del marchio Jeep

Jeep Grand Cherokee L 2021 offre migliorate capacità off-road e un’eccellente dinamica di guida su strada. Le leggendarie prestazioni in fuoristrada sono garantite da tre sistemi di trazione integrale: Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II e Quadra-Drive II con differenziale posteriore autobloccante elettronico a slittamento limitato (eLSD). Tutti hanno una scatola di rinvio attiva che migliora la trazione trasferendo la coppia sulla ruota con maggiore aderenza.

 
Quadra-Trac I è una scatola di rinvio attiva ad una velocità che utilizza i dati provenienti da vari sensori presenti sul veicolo per regolare preventivamente la ripartizione della coppia e apportare prontamente delle correzioni in caso di perdita di aderenza. Una volta rilevato lo slittamento di una ruota, può trasferire fino al 100 per cento della coppia disponibile sull'asse con maggiore trazione. 

 
La scatola di rinvio attiva a due velocità Quadra-Trac II con riduttore utilizza i dati provenienti da vari sensori presenti nel veicolo per regolare preventivamente la ripartizione della coppia e apportare prontamente delle correzioni in caso di slittamento. Una volta rilevato lo slittamento, fino al 100 per cento della coppia disponibile viene reindirizzato all'asse con maggiore trazione. Il sistema di gestione della coppia Active 4-Low con rapporto di riduzione pari a 2,72:1 migliora la manovrabilità in off-road e garantisce prestazioni ottimali.

Quadra-Drive II, con scatola di rinvio a due velocità ed eLSD posteriore, offre una capacità di trazione senza pari. Il sistema rileva immediatamente lo slittamento degli pneumatici e reagisce dolcemente distribuendo la coppia alle ruote in presa. In alcuni casi, il sistema è in grado di prevedere una situazione di scarsa aderenza e effettuare una azione preventiva allo scopo di limitare o eliminare lo slittamento. Quadra-Drive II è disponibile a richiesta sulla versione Overland 4x4 se equipaggiata con Off-Road Group ed è di serie sull’allestimento Summit.

 

Quadra-Lift

Le esclusive sospensioni pneumatiche Jeep Quadra-Lift, ora con ammortizzazione elettronica adattiva, garantiscono un’altezza dal suolo e una capacità di guado di assoluto riferimento. Il sistema regola automaticamente la taratura degli ammortizzatori in rapporto alle condizioni del terreno per offrire maggiore comfort, stabilità e controllo.

Il sistema Quadra-Lift della Jeep Grand Cherokee L 2021 opera automaticamente, ma può essere controllato anche manualmente tramite i comandi sulla consolle centrale, e offre cinque impostazioni per regolare l’altezza del veicolo a vantaggio delle prestazioni:

 

• Normal Ride Height (NHR): con 8,3 pollici (212 mm) di altezza da terra, assicura consumi ridotti e una migliore aerodinamica nella guida su strada
• Off-road 1: solleva il veicolo di 1,6 pollici (40 mm) rispetto all’assetto NRH fino ad un’altezza totale di 9,9 pollici (252 mm) e consente di superare più agevolmente gli ostacoli
• Off-road 2: solleva il veicolo di ulteriori 2,4 pollici (60 mm) rispetto alla modalità NRH, ovvero il 9 per cento in più della generazione precedente consentendogli di raggiungere un’altezza da terra di 10,9 pollici (277 mm) e una capacità di guado fino a 24 pollici (610 mm, quattro pollici o 102 mm in più rispetto alla generazione precedente) per garantire le leggendarie prestazioni off-road del marchio Jeep
• Modalità Park: abbassa il veicolo di 1,8 pollici (46 mm) rispetto alla modalità NRH per agevolare l’accesso e l’uscita dalla vettura, e lo rende due volte più veloce nell’abbassarsi rispetto alla generazione precedente. Le modalità NRH e Park sono selezionabili dal guidatore. Le sospensioni pneumatiche presentano un doppio serbatoio che rende le operazioni più rapide e controllate
• Modalità Aero: abbassa il veicolo di 0,8 pollici (21 mm) rispetto all’assetto normale NRH. La modalità Aero entra in funzione in base alla velocità del veicolo e si adatta per garantire prestazioni e consumi efficienti. Il veicolo si abbassa all’altezza prevista dalla modalità Aero quando si trova in modalità Sport 

 

Il sistema Quadra-Lift offre fino a 4,17 pollici (106 mm) di escursione massima grazie alle sospensioni pneumatiche a quattro angoli che garantiscono un’ammortizzazione perfetta e un’esperienza di guida confortevole. Il rapporto di riduzione della Grand Cherokee L è pari a 44:1.

 

Grazie alle sospensioni pneumatiche Quadra-Lift disponibili a richiesta, Jeep Grand Cherokee L può vantare un angolo di attacco pari a 30,1 gradi, un angolo di uscita pari a 23,6 gradi e un angolo di dosso pari a 22,6 gradi.

 
Selec-Terrain
Il sistema di gestione della trazione Selec-Terrain della Jeep Grand Cherokee L consente di scegliere tra le modalità per la guida on-road ed off-road quella più adatta ad affrontare una particolare superficie. Il sistema coordina elettronicamente il funzionamento del gruppo propulsore (fino a sei diversi), del ripartitore della coppia in 4x4, dei freni, della manovrabilità, dello sterzo e delle sospensioni, e comprende il modulo di controllo dell’acceleratore, il controller del cambio, la scatola di rinvio, il controllo della trazione, il controllo della stabilità, l’ABS e la reattività dello sterzo.

 

Il conducente può opzionare tra cinque diversi programmi - Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, Mud/Sand - la modalità di guida idonea ad affrontare un particolare fondo stradale.

 

L’Hill Descent Control consente di controllare la velocità di Grand Cherokee L lungo tratti in discesa particolarmente impegnativi tramite i paddle al volante di serie su tutte le versioni, senza la necessità di ricorrere ai pedali del freno e dell’acceleratore. L’Hill Descent Control è di serie sugli allestimenti Overland e Summit e può essere utilizzato anche con la retro marcia.

 

La versione Overland 4x4 con badge Trail Rated è equipaggiata con il pacchetto Off-Road Group (a richiesta) e può vantare dotazioni di riferimento in termini di trazione, altezza da terra, maneggevolezza, articolazione e capacità di guado (fino a 24 pollici). L’Off-Road Group comprende anche protezioni sottoscocca in acciaio ad alta resistenza, differenziale autobloccante elettronico a slittamento limitato sull’asse posteriore, cerchi in alluminio da 18” e robusti pneumatici quattro stagioni ad alte prestazioni.

 

Nuova architettura

La nuova Jeep Grand Cherokee L ha ricevuto numerose migliorie per innalzare il livello delle prestazioni su strada e garantire maneggevolezza e silenziosità, riducendo al tempo stesso peso e consumi. La nuova struttura monoscocca, tre sistemi di trazione 4x4 (Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trad II e Quadra-Drive II), sospensioni pneumatiche Quadra-Lift e sistema di gestione della trazione Selec-Terrain contribuiscono a migliorare le leggendarie capacità off-road della Grand Cherokee.

 

L'utilizzo di cofano e portellone posteriore in alluminio, materiale leggero e altoresistenziale, ha contribuito a ridurre peso e consumi. Il team di ingegneri Jeep ha inoltre ridotto il peso attraverso una serie di interventi che comprendono: il collegamento dell’asse direttamente al motore, il montaggio di una robusta culla anteriore, l’utilizzo di supporti del motore e sterzo in alluminio, di rinforzo trasversale in magnesio, di supporti degli ammortizzatori in alluminio e del nuovo servofreno elettronico. Per ridurre il peso a vantaggio di consumi ed emissioni e per aumentare al contempo la solidità del veicolo, la scocca della Grand Cherokee L è stata realizzata in acciaio altoresistenziale di terza generazione. L’impiego di questo materiale di ultima generazione ha consentito a ingegneri e designer di stampare a freddo parti complesse in materiali ad alta resistenza, cosa che non era possibile in passato, creando una struttura più solida e al contempo innovativa.

 

In particolare gli ingegneri Jeep si sono concentrati sulla progettazione di una struttura che fosse al tempo stesso robusta e leggera, equilibrata e funzionale. Per raggiungere questo risultato, Grand Cherokee L è realizzata per oltre il 60 per cento in acciaio ad alta resistenza di ultima generazione, che garantisce maggiore duttilità, efficienza e una migliore capacità di assorbimento dell’energia.

 

Jeep Grand Cherokee si contraddistingue per la silenziosità e la straordinaria dinamica di guida su strada, grazie anche alle sospensioni anteriori e posteriori indipendenti. Il model year 2021 della Grand Cherokee L presenta una nuova posizione del giunto sferico virtuale anteriore che consente di migliorare il controllo laterale e una sospensione posteriore a bracci multipli che garantisce maggior comfort di guida e maneggevolezza. Una barra montata sui duomi degli ammortizzatori aumenta la rigidità laterale in prossimità del vano motore del 125 per cento. La nuova sospensione pneumatica regolabile modifica continuamente la rigidità in base alle condizioni della strada per migliorare ulteriormente le leggendarie capacità off-road. Circa 6.500 saldature nella sola scocca, mettono in evidenza le eccezionali prestazioni del nuovo modello.

 

Numerosi sono i miglioramenti apportati al sistema di sospensioni pneumatiche della Grand Cherokee L per offrire una guida confortevole sia su strada che in off-road:

 

• L’impianto di sospensioni a ciclo chiuso riutilizza aria pulita, allungando così la vita utile del compressore
• Il sistema Quick Down Leveling (QDL) utilizza un blocco valvola esterno e un serbatoio d’aria secondario per modificare rapidamente l’altezza da terra del veicolo; in questo modo i due assi si abbassano simultaneamente, a differenza di quanto avveniva nella generazione precedente, in cui si aveva l’abbassamento di un singolo asse per volta. Grazie al sistema QDL, il movimento del veicolo verso il basso è più rapido
• Gli ammortizzatori semi-attivi elettronici montati sulle versioni equipaggiate con sospensioni pneumatiche adattano continuamente l’assetto del veicolo alle condizioni della strada e ai diversi stili di guida per offrire il massimo comfort in ogni situazione

 

Per la prima volta in assoluto sulla Grand Cherokee, l’asse anteriore è fissato direttamente al motore per consentire una migliore gestione della rumorosità, vibrazioni e ruvidità (NVH) e offrire una dinamica di guida superiore, grazie anche al baricentro più basso. I nuovi supporti del motore attivi/elettronici assorbono una quantità maggiore di vibrazioni e di movimenti con il motore al minimo, ma si irrigidiscono alle alte velocità per ottimizzare la qualità di guida. Questa nuova funzionalità è disponibile a richiesta sulla Grand Cherokee e garantisce comfort, versatilità e prestazioni di livello superiore. L’avanzato sistema Active Noise Cancellation, insieme alla carrozzeria a doppi pannelli, alle guarnizioni delle portiere e ai vetri acustici completano la serie di miglioramenti apportati per azzerare i livelli di NVH.

 

Il servosterzo elettrico (EPS) della Grand Cherokee è stato attentamente calibrato per migliorare l’esperienza di guida e ridurre il consumo di energia. Il motore elettrico è gestito da una centralina di controllo (ECU) adattiva, che monitora la velocità e l’angolo di sterzata. Ciò consente l’applicazione di diversi livelli di assistenza alla sterzata: maggiore alle basse velocità, per esempio durante le manovre di parcheggio, minore a velocità più elevate in autostrada, per aumentare la sicurezza di guida. Il sistema EPS utilizza un rapporto variabile per migliorare la manovrabilità del veicolo mantenendo una perfetta stabilità in tutte le condizioni.

 

Motorizzazioni pluripremiate

La nuova Jeep Grand Cherokee L offre due potenti ed efficienti motorizzazioni, per assicurare elevate prestazioni in ogni situazione.

 

Di serie è equipaggiata con il motore Pentastar V-6 in alluminio da 3,6 litri, che eroga 290 CV e una coppia di 257 lb.-ft. L’angolo a 60° tra le bancate dei cilindri di questo potente e raffinato propulsore garantisce una guida estremamente fluida: una esperienza resa ancora più piacevole grazie agli accessori fissati direttamente sul blocco motore. Insignito per sette volte del premio Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsion System, il Pentastar V-6 è un motore compatto con collettori di scarico integrati nelle teste dei cilindri.

 

Gli alberi a camme in testa azionati a catena sono dotati di un sistema di alzata a due stadi e fasatura variabile delle valvole (VVT), una combinazione che consente di regolare la potenza del propulsore alle esigenze del guidatore per garantire il perfetto equilibrio tra prestazioni e bassi consumi.

 

La tecnologia Engine Start-Stop (ESS) per la riduzione dei consumi è di serie con il Pentastar V-6. Il sistema ESS è stato ulteriormente migliorato per Grand Cherokee L con un serbatoio di pressione posto nella trasmissione a otto marce, che fornisce l’olio agli elementi del cambio alla riaccensione del motore per partenze scattanti. Comandi del cambio migliorati e una nuova tecnologia di avviamento riducono al minimo le possibilità di accensione anticipata del motore dovuta a piccoli movimenti del piede del guidatore sul pedale del freno. Rumori, vibrazioni e ruvidità al riavvio sono stati ridotti grazie a nuovi comandi e a supporti del motore commutabili.

 

Il propulsore Pentastar V-6 da 3,6 litri vanta una capacità di traino fino a 6.200 libbre e un’autonomia stimata di quasi 500 miglia.

 

Il sistema VVT del Pentastar V-6 con fasatura indipendente dei due alberi a camme garantisce un maggiore risparmio di carburante in un’ampia erogazione di coppia. Quasi il 90 per cento della coppia massima del motore è disponibile dai 1.800 ai 6.400 giri/min: un aspetto importante nelle operazioni di traino. 

 

I clienti che desiderano maggiore potenza possono optare per il pluripremiato V-8 da 5,7 litri, con 357 CV di potenza e 390 lb.-ft. di coppia.

 

Il V-8, dotato di un basamento in ghisa e dalle teste dei cilindri in alluminio, garantisce ottime prestazioni e massima efficienza grazie al sistema VVT e alla tecnologia Fuel Saver (per la disattivazione dei cilindri), che consente alla centralina che controlla il motore di interrompere l’erogazione del carburante e disattivare quattro degli otto cilindri quando non è richiesta la massima potenza. Il sistema riattiva immediatamente i cilindri disattivati nel momento in cui il guidatore preme il pedale dell'acceleratore. In base alle condizioni di guida, la disattivazione dei cilindri può portare a una riduzione dei consumi tra il 5 e il 20 per cento.

 

Il V-8 da 5,7 litri offre una capacità di traino pari a 7.200 libbre.

  

La riduzione dei consumi è garantita anche dalla tecnologia VVT, che limita il lavoro di pompaggio del motore tramite la chiusura ritardata della valvola di aspirazione e l’aumento della fase di espansione del processo di combustione. In questo modo una quantità maggiore di energia viene trasferita alle ruote invece di disperdersi negli scarichi in forma di calore. La tecnologia VVT migliora anche la fase di aspirazione, con un conseguente aumento dell’efficienza e della potenza del motore. 

 

Entrambi i propulsori sono abbinati alla robusta e resistente trasmissione automatica TorqueFlite a otto rapporti, che garantisce consumi ridotti e fluidità di innesto. Gli ampi rapporti di riduzione mantengono i giri del motore nell’intervallo ideale richiesto sia nei viaggi a velocità costante in autostrada che nei percorsi in fuoristrada e in ogni altra situazione di guida. La modifica in tempo reale della mappatura del cambio consente alla trasmissione di adeguare la strategia di cambiata alle esigenze del guidatore sulla base di variabili quali la variazione dell’erogazione di coppia, la presenza di pendenze, la temperatura, l’accelerazione longitudinale e l’accelerazione laterale.

 

Tra le novità, la Grand Cherokee L 2021 4x4 presenta il sistema di disconnessione dell’asse anteriore. Quando il veicolo rileva che le condizioni della strada non richiedono la trazione integrale, il sistema disconnette automaticamente l’asse anteriore e la Grand Cherokee L passa alla modalità a due ruote motrici, a vantaggio dei consumi. La trazione integrale viene reinserita automaticamente quando necessario.

 

Design: eleganza e qualità

Esterni
Con il debutto della prima generazione della Grand Cherokee nel 1992, il marchio Jeep ha presentato al mondo un modello inedito che è diventato un riferimento, distinguendosi per il design esclusivo e le capacità senza compromessi. Dopo alcuni decenni, la storia continua con la nuova Jeep Grand Cherokee L 2021 che torna a imporre nuovi standard in termini di lusso e prestazioni.

“Il team di design Jeep immaginava un’estetica moderna per la nuova Grand Cherokee L, e ha lavorato sodo per creare un look nuovo contraddistinto da linee pulite, in grado di soddisfare pienamente il gusto e le aspettative dei clienti di oggi” ha dichiarato Mark Allen, Head of Jeep Exterior Design, FCA. “Il design della prima Grand Cherokee a tre file rimane fedele alla tradizione del brand e rende omaggio al carattere pratico e funzionale del veicolo. Il risultato mantiene gli elementi sofisticati, lo stile contemporaneo e le capacità leggendarie che contraddistinguono la Grand Cherokee fin dagli esordi.”

 

Le proporzioni della nuova Grand Cherokee L sono ispirate al Wagoneer originale, il primo SUV full-size di lusso prodotto dal marchio Jeep, con il profilo slanciato del cofano allungato e dell'abitacolo, e la griglia leggermente inclinata in avanti. Il tetto abbassato migliora l’aerodinamica e l’efficienza senza sacrificare lo spazio di carico.

 

Le modifiche più importanti riguardano il frontale dove spiccano nuovi proiettori a LED dalla forma sottile e l’iconica griglia a sette feritoie, ora più grande, è impreziosita da un’elegante finitura che sottolinea la nuova forma dei gruppi ottici e mette in evidenza le dimensioni ampie del veicolo. Sotto la griglia, è posizionata una nuova fascia anteriore proporzionalmente più larga rispetto alla generazione precedente che ha un duplice scopo estetico e funzionale: integra infatti un nuovo radar a lunga portata e altre funzionalità avanzate, tra cui il sistema Active Grille Shutters, per migliorare le prestazioni su strada e l’efficienza dei consumi.

 

Lateralmente, la linea di cintura abbassata e i finestrini più grandi rendono più spazioso l’abitacolo e garantiscono maggiore visibilità. La linea del tetto sembra sospesa grazie al nuovo design della modanatura dei finestrini, che inizia alla base dello specchietto laterale e prosegue senza interruzioni dal finestrino posteriore fino alla base del fanale posteriore. Questa finitura risalta particolarmente se abbinata al tetto Gloss Black, disponibile per la prima volta a richiesta sulla versione Overland e di serie sulla versione Summit. Nuove barre al tetto aggiungono eleganza al profilo laterale. Finiture e cromature sono state ridotte al minimo per rispondere alle esigenze di un’estetica più moderna.

 

La carreggiata incrementata di 36 mm e i grandi passaruota trapezoidali conferiscono carattere alla Grand Cherokee L. Inoltre, per la prima volta su un modello Grand Cherokee, sono disponibili cerchi da 21” (con il pacchetto Summit Reserve). 

 

Anche la parte posteriore è stata ridisegnata e come il frontale presenta eleganti proiettori a LED dalla forma sottile progettati per rafforzare l’aspetto tecnico del veicolo. La nuova fascia posteriore e i fendinebbia a LED presentano finiture che riprendono i motivi presenti sul frontale e fanno sembrare il retro del veicolo più ampio.

 

Nuovi spoiler posti sul montante verticale in aggiunta a quello sul portellone posteriore migliorano l’aerodinamica. Una telecamera posteriore dotata di sistema di lavaggio è stata accuratamente inserita nello spoiler del portellone posteriore, che, in alto al centro, presenta anche una nuova luce degli stop a LED. Altri elementi, tra cui il tappo del gancio da traino integrato e il terminale di scarico montato sulla fascia, completano il look del nuovo modello. Le versioni Overland e Summit offrono di serie l’azionamento automatico del portellone posteriore con il movimento del piede. 

 

Il fatto che, per la prima volta, tutti gli allestimenti di Jeep Grand Cherokee sono dotati di una suite completa di luci premium a LED ha consentito una grande flessibilità nel definire il carattere del veicolo.

 

Gli esclusivi proiettori dalla forma allungata inseriti in una cornice Gloss Black e i sottili fendinebbia orizzontali sono espressione della sobrietà che caratterizza il frontale e rendono Grand Cherokee L immediatamente riconoscibile. 

 

L’impianto luci è completato sulla parte posteriore da fanali ultra sottili. La dotazione di serie delle versioni Overland e Summit comprende inoltre maniglie delle porte che si illuminano quando ci si avvicina alla vettura. 

 

Interni

L’obiettivo del team di designer Jeep era quello di realizzare gli interni più eleganti e tecnicamente avanzati del settore.

 

“L’obiettivo del team incaricato della progettazione degli interni era quello di creare un abitacolo unico. Ci siamo avvicinati all’intero processo di progettazione con una visione più ampia che ci ha permesso di creare una nuova generazione di interni Jeep” ha dichiarato Chris Benjamin, Head of Jeep, Chrysler and Advanced Interior Design, FCA. “Se gli interni di Jeep Grand Cherokee sono da sempre sinonimo di ricercatezza, per la versione a tre file abbiamo deciso di utilizzare dettagli esclusivi, materiali lavorati a mano e dotazioni che si abbinassero perfettamente alla sua personalità.”

 

Una volta a bordo, il guidatore e i passeggeri noteranno immediatamente che la nuova disposizione degli elementi interni regala una sensazione di spaziosità e di maggiore simmetria. La plancia è stata ridisegnata e orientata per creare più spazio, fornendo un delicato contrasto tra materiali caldi e autentici e raffinate tecnologie moderne.

 

Un inserto orizzontale scolpito percorre l’intero pannello frontale mentre una finitura strutturale in metallo che si estende lungo tutta la plancia fino alle nuove, sottili bocchette del climatizzatore. Un’elegante finitura incornicia l’inserto in legno naturale che è disponibile a richiesta in Absolute Oak a poro aperto sulla versione Summit e in Waxed Walnut a poro aperto nel pacchetto Summit Reserve. La disposizione degli strati di legno, pelle e metallo avvolge i passeggeri in un capolavoro visivo.

 

Alla ricchezza dei materiali si contrappone la raffinata lavorazione della consolle centrale, che è stata riallineata per renderla ancora più facilmente accessibile al guidatore. Un vivace elemento strutturale incornicia con grande precisione il display da 10,1” di ultima generazione del nuovo sistema Uconnect 5. Costituisce una novità anche il quadro strumenti digitale da 10,25” che permette di visualizzare quasi una ventina di menù diversi per attivare tecnologie di assistenza alla guida quali l’Adaptive Cruise Control, l’Highway Assist, il sistema di visione notturna, il Drowsy Driver Detection e il sistema di riconoscimento dei limiti di velocità (se presente). Per gestire il quadro strumenti digitale, Grand Cherokee L dispone di un nuovo volante multifunzione dotato di paddle. La versione Summit presenta un volante rivestito in pelle Absolute Oak, a cui si aggiungono con il pacchetto Summit Reserve anche inserti in legno Waxed Walnut.

 

La consolle è stata ridisegnata e sfoggia ora una nuova configurazione con finiture lucide Piano Black. E’ caratterizzata da un nuovo sistema di controllo della trazione con manopola rotativa in metallo retroilluminata che fornisce avvisi tattili quando è attiva. Per sottolineare l’autentico carattere Jeep, accanto alla manopola si trovano gli indicatori del cambio e del sistema Selec-Terrain. Grazie ai nuovi portabicchieri, il vano portaoggetti centrale risulta ancora più spazioso e può contenere due dispositivi wireless. Un caricatore wireless è disponibile a richiesta per caricare due device contemporaneamente.

 

Sulla Grand Cherokee L è stata introdotta una nuova architettura della seduta, con sedili anteriori regolabili in lunghezza nelle versioni Overland e Summit: una novità assoluta per i veicoli FCA. Sedili della prima fila regolabili in 16 posizioni con supporto lombare e funzione memory sono disponibili a richiesta su Overland mentre sono di serie su Summit, così come lo schienale massaggiante con cinque profili personalizzabili e tre livelli di intensità di pressione. A partire dall’allestimento Limited in su, sono di serie i sedili delle prime due file riscaldati, con tre livelli di configurazione per il massimo comfort dei passeggeri. I sedili anteriori ventilati sono disponibili a richiesta sulla versione Limited e sono di serie sugli allestimenti Overland e Summit, mentre i sedili ventilati nella seconda fila sono di serie nel pacchetto Summit Reserve.

 

Nella parte posteriore dell’abitacolo della versione Summit, sedili “Captain Chair” affiancano una nuova consolle con un ampio vano portaoggetti e portabicchieri. Simile a quella anteriore, questa seconda consolle è stata disegnata in maniera da garantire la massima funzionalità e abbondante spazio per le gambe dei passeggeri della terza fila. In tutti i modelli la parte posteriore dell’abitacolo presenta morbidi braccioli in tinta con i sedili in pelle, ulteriori vani portaoggetti e portabicchieri e 12 porte USB di tipo A e C per dispositivi wireless.

 

Una suite completa per l’illuminazione a LED interna, personalizzabile con impostazioni diurne/notturne è di serie su tutti i modelli. Per la prima volta su un veicolo FCA, un’autentica illuminazione ambientale con possibilità di scelta tra cinque colori si irradia dalla plancia e dalle porte anteriori e posteriori. La funzionalità è di serie sulle versioni Overland e Summit.

 

Nell’allestimento Summit il controllo della temperatura automatico a quattro zone accresce il comfort degli occupanti, permettendo ai singoli passeggeri delle prime due file di selezionare livelli e modalità di ventilazione diversi. Il sistema offre anche la possibilità di impostare quattro temperature diverse. Per la prima volta su un veicolo FCA, le bocchette della seconda e della terza fila, ora più ampie e allungate, sono posizionate nei montanti e non sul tetto, per coprire meglio le singole zone senza compromettere lo spazio sopra la testa dei passeggeri e la visibilità.

 

Grand Cherokee L prevede il pacchetto premium Summit Reserve con rivestimenti lavorati a mano in pelle capitonné Palermo di prima qualità, sedili ventilati nella prima e nella seconda fila, sedili anteriori massaggianti e con funzione memory e possibilità di scegliere i nuovi rivestimenti interni Tupelo. Caratteristiche esclusive del pacchetto Summit Reserve sono anche gli elementi in vero legno Waxed Walnut a poro aperto e i rivestimenti dei montanti A e del tetto in tessuto simil camoscio di prima qualità.

La Jeep Grand Cherokee L 2021 è il primo modello FCA nel settore a montare un sistema audio McIntosh, disponibile a richiesta sui modelli Overland e Summit, e di serie con il pacchetto Summit Reserve. Questo sistema è dotato di un amplificatore a 17 canali da 950 watt con 19 altoparlanti, tra cui un subwoofer da 10 pollici.

 

La condivisione delle idee dei team di design di FCA e McIntosh ha dato vita a un esclusivo sistema audio progettato per il marchio  Jeep e contraddistinto dalla stessa qualità dei sistemi audio domestici McIntosh. Il sistema mette ancora più in risalto gli elementi di novità e la qualità degli interni del veicolo. 

 

Gli allestimenti Overland e Summit presentano inoltre il tetto a due pannelli CommandView con apertura elettrica (disponibile a richiesta sulla versione Limited). Sul modello Laredo è disponibile a richiesta il tetto a pannello singolo.

 

Nuova abitabilità

Progettata per garantire il massimo comfort, la nuova Jeep Grand Cherokee L 2021 offre la capienza di un veicolo a tre file e un maggiore volume di carico. Grazie al passo di 121,7 pollici (3.091 mm), il veicolo presenta un abitacolo ampio con uno spazio per i passeggeri della seconda fila di riferimento nel proprio segmento.

 

Per facilitare l’accesso e l’uscita, la Grand Cherokee L ha porte posteriori più grandi rispetto alle generazioni precedenti, che si aprono a 64 gradi e sono dotata di pedana.

 

All’interno, la vettura può accogliere sei o sette passeggeri. La seconda fila è costituita da sedili avvolgenti ribaltabili e scorrevoli (panchetta disponibile come optional), che possono scorrere in avanti o indietro di 7 pollici (180 mm) per aumentare lo spazio disponibile nella terza fila. Una terza fila ripiegabile elettricamente è disponibile a richiesta. I sedili della seconda fila possono essere facilmente spostati per creare un passaggio più ampio per la terza fila, inoltre non è necessario rimuovere i seggiolini per bambini montati nella seconda fila per accedere alla terza. Progettata per garantire il comfort dei passeggeri, la terza fila offre uno spazio per la testa pari a 37,3 pollici (947 mm).

Per la maggiore comodità del guidatore, tutti i modelli sono dotati di pedale poggiapiede e vano integrato nella porta per dispositivi wireless. I sedili della seconda fila possono essere reclinati di 18 gradi per assicurare maggior confort ai passeggeri nei viaggi.

 

Dietro la seconda fila, il volume di carico è pari a 46,9 piedi cubi. Il sedile della terza fila frazionabile 50/50 può essere facilmente ribaltato all’indietro. Per un maggiore spazio nel trasporto di carico, i sedili della seconda e della terza fila possono essere ripiegati per creare una superficie di carico piana. Con i sedili della seconda e della terza fila ripiegati, il volume di carico aumenta ed è pari a 84,6 piedi cubi.

 

Rispetto alle precedente generazione, la Grand Cherokee L offre una migliore visibilità a tutti i passeggeri, grazie ad ampi finestrini laterali. Sono state apportate importanti migliorie per risolvere il problema degli angoli morti laterali e posteriori in corrispondenza dei montanti (con un incremento della visibilità di sette gradi). Le ampie superfici in vetro fanno sembrare l'abitacolo più spazioso e garantiscono una maggiore visibilità.

 

Grand Cherokee L è il primo veicolo FCA dotato di un sistema elettronico a controllo remoto posto nel vano bagagli per ripiegare facilmente i sedili della seconda fila (Captain chair di serie e panchetta disponibile a richiesta). Il sistema è di serie sulle versioni Overland e Summit.

 

Una funzionalità che consente di impostare l’apertura del portellone posteriore a un’altezza specifica fa parte della dotazione di serie sulle versioni Limited, Overland e Summit ed è disponibile a richiesta per l’allestimento Laredo. Le versioni Overland e Summit presentano di serie l’apertura automatica del portellone posteriore, attivabile con il movimento del piede. 

 

Sistemi di sicurezza avanzati 

La nuova Jeep Grand Cherokee L 2021 offre più di 110 sistemi di sicurezza attiva e passiva, con tecnologie innovative che perfezionano l’interazione tra guidatore, veicolo e strada.

 

Innovazione al top nel segmento

Grand Cherokee L è equipaggiata con una serie di funzionalità avanzate per garantire la massima sicurezza di conducenti e passeggeri. Si tratta di sistemi che aumentano il campo visivo del guidatore, rendono più visibile la strumentazione di bordo e abilitano il veicolo a un certo livello di guida assistita per prevenire rischi di collisione.

 

Active Driving Assist è il nome dato da FCA al sistema per la guida automatizzata di secondo livello (L2), una tecnologia che dimostra come l’azienda stia avanzando verso un futuro a guida autonoma. Grand Cherokee L dispone di Active Driving Assist per la guida autonoma con mani sul volante e occhi sulla strada grazie alla funzionalità Lane Centering con Adaptive Cruise Control. Il sistema si serve di vari sensori, radar e telecamere per fornire le indicazioni necessarie alla tecnologia. L’Active Driving Assist è disponibile a richiesta sull’allestimento Overland ed è di serie sulla versione Summit.     

 

Hands-free Active Driving Assist è il nome assegnato da FCA al sistema di guida autonoma L2 senza mani sul volante che sarà disponibile a fine 2021 sugli allestimenti Overland e Summit di Grand Cherokee L model year 2022. Consente di guidare senza tenere le mani sul volante a qualsiasi velocità e mantenendosi al centro della corsia su particolari tipologie di strade. Inoltre il sistema diminuisce la velocità del veicolo in maniera predittiva nelle curve strette per riprendere automaticamente il controllo dopo il passaggio al guidatore e verifica che quest’ultimo sia attento alla strada.

 

La telecamera per la visione notturna, disponibile a richiesta sulle versioni Overland e Summit, utilizza la tecnologia termografica per aumentare il raggio d’azione dei fari della Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Sensori a infrarossi rilevano il calore emanato da pedoni e animali presenti sulla strada a una distanza fino a 219 iarde (200 metri). Una volta localizzato l’ostacolo, un avviso con l’indicazione della sua posizione rispetto al veicolo viene visualizzato sul quadro strumenti di fronte al guidatore.

 

La forma ergonomica è una caratteristica fondamentale per il funzionamento dell’Head-up Display (HUD) a colori. Disponibile a richiesta sui modelli Overland e Summit, il sistema fornisce al guidatore fino a cinque diversi elementi informativi, e comprende l’Active Lane Management, l’Adaptive Cruise Control, la navigazione, la velocità, la marcia innestata e i limiti di velocità.

 

L’Intersection Collision Assist consente di individuare i veicoli provenienti da destra e da sinistra in prossimità di un incrocio. Quattro radar e una telecamera verificano se una collisione è imminente, sollecitando il sistema a emettere segnali acustici e visivi. Nel caso in cui il guidatore non reagisca, il sistema attiva automaticamente il freno. Questa funzionalità è di serie sui modelli Summit.

 

Il Drowsy Driver Detection controlla i movimenti del veicolo, per esempio in caso di abbandono della corsia di marcia, e le interazioni col conducente, come esempio i movimenti dello sterzo, per rilevare l’eventuale stato di sonnolenza del guidatore. Una volta raggiunte soglie specifiche, il sistema emette segnali acustici e/o visivi invitando il guidatore a fermarsi per riposare. Il sistema è di serie sui modelli Summit.

 

La telecamera digitale posteriore, disponibile a richiesta dall’allestimento Limited in su, si sostituisce al tradizionale specchio retrovisore e presenta un display a cristalli liquidi (LCD) da 9,2” che mostra in tempo reale le riprese della telecamera posteriore. Quando non viene utilizzato come display, lo schermo è un normale specchio riflettente.

Il Traffic Sign Recognition, di serie sull’allestimento Summit, utilizza una telecamera frontale per identificare limiti di velocità e relativi cartelli stradali, come quelli che segnalano la presenza di scuole e cantieri.

 

Ulteriore protezione e sicurezza sono garantite dalla Surround View Camera. Disponibile a richiesta sui modelli Limited e Overland e di serie sulla versione Summit, questo sistema offre una visuale a 360° del veicolo e di ciò che lo circonda attraverso un touchscreen digitale da 10,1” con griglia dinamica. Dotato della funzione di pulizia, il sistema dispone anche di park assist anteriore ParkSense.

 

La dotazione dell’allestimento Summit prevede inoltre il Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist di serie. Questo sistema assiste il guidatore nelle manovre di parcheggio con l’ausilio di sensori a ultrasuoni. FCA è il primo produttore di automobili a utilizzare questa tecnologia con visualizzazione dedicata sul display del sistema di infotainment.

Grand Cherokee L è equipaggiata per mantenere gli occupanti connessi durante il viaggio. A richiesta, i passeggeri della fila anteriore possono disporre di un pad di ricarica wireless, mentre doppie porte USB di tipo C sono disponibili di serie e consentono la ricarica di dispositivi con tempi fino a quattro volte più rapidi. Jeep Grand Cherokee L offre un totale di 12 porte USB di tipo A e C disposte su tutte le tre file. Le porte USB singole della terza fila sono optional sulla versione Laredo, mentre sono di serie a partire dall’allestimento Limited.

 

Telecamera per il monitoraggio dei sedili posteriori

Jeep Grand Cherokee L 2021 può essere equipaggiata a richiesta con una telecamera per il monitoraggio dei sedili posteriori che proietta immagini in alta definizione e offre caratteristiche esclusive, tra cui la visione nitida dei seggiolini per bambini sulla seconda fila, display multischermo e funzione “Zoom-to-seat”. 

 

Le immagini della telecamera puntata sui sedili posteriori sono visualizzabili sullo schermo touchscreen da 10,1” del sistema Uconnect e consentono al guidatore di controllare rapidamente l’intero abitacolo e di zoomare facilmente sui singoli sedili. Le funzioni di memorizzazione mantengono l’inquadratura ingrandita sull’ultima posizione osservata, per garantire semplicità di utilizzo e limitare momenti di distrazione del guidatore.

 

La telecamera è posta sul tetto tra i sedili della seconda e della terza fila. Il sistema passa automaticamente dalla modalità diurna a quella notturna per offrire una migliore visibilità. La telecamera per il monitoraggio dei sedili posteriori è disponibile a richiesta sugli allestimenti Limited, Overland e Summit.

 

Novità digitali

Jeep Grand Cherokee L è il primo veicolo prodotto da Jeep a offrire uno specchio retrovisore completamente digitale. Sullo specchio retrovisore digitale vengono proiettate in tempo reale le riprese provenienti da una telecamera volta in senso contrario alla marcia, offrendo una visuale non disturbata dal montante D o dai sedili posteriori. Inoltre può funzionare come un normale specchio retrovisore. Lo specchio retrovisore digitale è disponibile a richiesta sugli allestimenti Limited, Overland e Summit e offre una visione posteriore priva di ostacoli per una maggiore sicurezza e per prevenire gli incidenti.

 

Jeep Grand Cherokee L è anche il primo veicolo Jeep ad offrire il sistema HUD montato sul parabrezza. Disponibile a richiesta sugli allestimenti Overland e superiori, presenta un display che può arrivare fino a 10” e quattro opzioni di configurazione: tre predefinite e una personalizzata. Il sistema HUD fornisce al guidatore informazioni fondamentali, tra cui velocità del veicolo e i limiti di velocità nonché i dati provenienti dai sistemi di navigazione e di assistenza alla guida. Tutte le impostazione dell’HUD possono essere personalizzate e memorizzate nel profilo del guidatore.

 

Costituisce una novità per Grand Cherokee L anche il quadro strumenti digitale da 10,25 pollici con design senza cornice. Disponibile di serie, mette a disposizione dell’utente circa due dozzine di menù diversi per attivare tecnologie di assistenza alla guida quali l’Adaptive Cruise Control, l’Active Driving Assist, la Night Vision, il Drowsy Driver Detection e il Traffic Sign Recognition (se presenti). Ulteriori funzionalità includono la gestione di supporti multimediali, l’identificazione del chiamante, la lettura del tachimetro digitale, delle modalità di guida e della pressione degli pneumatici. Offre inoltre mappe per la navigazione con modalità a schermo intero e informazioni sul rollio nei percorsi off-road. Il quadro strumenti a colori consente di scegliere tra una strumentazione digitale o analogica. Tra le opzioni per la customizzazione dell’esperienza a bordo della Grand Cherokee L, ciascun guidatore ha la possibilità di memorizzare in un proprio profilo utente le impostazioni preferite del quadro strumenti, che potranno essere richiamate automaticamente. Gli elementi grafici vengono visualizzati sullo schermo in tempo reale con animazione in 3D.

 

Sistema audio di qualità superiore

Da oltre 70 anni McIntosh produce artigianalmente raffinati impianti home audio per gli appassionati di musica di tutto il mondo. Il marchio americano ha inoltre fornito gli impianti audio per i discorsi di insediamento dei presidenti statunitensi e per alcuni degli eventi più iconici della storia della musica. FCA è al momento l’unica casa automobilistica a montare sui propri veicoli un sistema audio McIntosh, e lo equipaggerà per la prima volta sulla Jeep Grand Cherokee L 2021.

 

Diciannove altoparlanti progettati su misura, tra cui un subwoofer da 10 pollici, dislocati strategicamente nell’abitacolo offrono un suono di qualità superiore per vivere un’esperienza di ascolto intensa e avvolgente. Produzione: orgogliosamente realizzata nella ‘Motor City’

La nuova Jeep Grand Cherokee L 2021 è assemblata nel nuovo Detroit Assembly Complex – Mack Plant, il primo impianto produttivo realizzato nella città di Detroit negli ultimi tre decenni. FCA ha investito 1,6 miliardi di dollari per costruire uno stabilimento di verniciatura da 790.000 piedi quadri (circa 73.400 metri quadri) e per convertire i due stabilimenti di produzione di motori già esistenti in un nuovo impianto di assemblaggio. L’investimento ha contribuito alla creazione di 3.850 posti di lavoro per supportare la produzione della prima Jeep Grand Cherokee a tre file, nonché della nuova versione a due file e dei futuri modelli elettrificati. L’inaugurazione dell’impianto è prevista nel primo trimestre del 2021.  

 

La strada verso una qualità di livello superiore

Una cosa è ridisegnare il SUV più premiato al mondo su carta; tutt’altra cosa è garantire che le sue prestazioni sulla strada (e in off-road) rispondano effettivamente alle aspettative.

 

Per poter lanciare sul mercato la nuova Jeep Grand Cherokee L 2021, gli ingegneri di FCA hanno sfruttato il capitale intellettuale accumulato in decenni di attività e si sono lasciati guidare dallo spirito di avventura dei clienti Jeep.

Tecnologia “gap and flush”

Il nuovo Detroit Assembly Complex - Mack, dove verrà prodotta Grand Cherokee L, dispone di una cella di misura in cui la luce laser abbinata a un radar verifica la geometria dei pannelli della carrozzeria. Ogni veicolo assemblato nel nuovo impianto di produzione passa attraverso questa cella, per garantire finiture precise e uniformi.

 

Precedentemente utilizzata da FCA nei reparti carrozzeria, la tecnologia per la misurazione del “gap and flush” presso il Detroit Assembly Complex - Mack viene impiegata per la prima volta al termine di una linea di produzione. Questa tecnologia garantisce una ripetibilità e un’accuratezza maggiore rispetto ai tradizionali sistemi di misurazione con telecamera. Di conseguenza, l’esclusivo profilo di ogni esemplare di Grand Cherokee L rispecchia fedelmente la visione dei designer Jeep.

 

Più Chalma

Il nuovo impianto di produzione FCA vanta anche una pista in cui tecnici appositamente preparati svolgono prove di conferma sugli aspetti più importanti, quali ad esempio la silenziosità dell’abitacolo. Ma il percorso di Grand Cherokee L 2021 verso una qualità di livello superiore è in realtà iniziato all’interno di un microprocessore nel Messico centrale per terminare a Detroit passando attraverso il centro prove FCA della vicina Chelsea, Michigan.

 

I tecnici hanno raccolto una serie di dati di utilizzo dai proprietari di Grand Cherokee di generazioni precedenti, la cui analisi ha fornito indicazioni molto chiare: per accrescere ulteriormente la robustezza e la resistenza della combinazione carrozzeria/telaio, un’altra delle richieste dei clienti, gli ingegneri FCA hanno deciso che c’era bisogno di “più Chalma”.

 

Il nome vuole essere un omaggio a una strada a sud di Città del Messico in passato così sconnessa da essere pressoché impraticabile. Ricreata in cemento presso i Chelsea Proving Grounds di FCA, “Chalma Road” è disseminata di buche, sassi killer e di due tipi di pericolosi fossati, diagonali e trasversali.

 

Grand Cherokee L è stata sottoposta a 1.000 ore di dure prove su questo percorso così ostile. Il che è quanto mai appropriato, ha affermato Champine, poiché “le uniche cose più tenaci e resistenti dei veicoli Jeep sono i loro proprietari.”

 

Prestazioni e lusso: la storia della Grand Cherokee

Con 80 anni di storia leggendaria, ogni veicolo Jeep vanta tradizione e personalità unica. Tutti offrono prestazioni e versatilità eccezionali. E la Grand Cherokee non fa certo eccezione. Jeep Grand Cherokee: terza generazione (WK): 2005-2010

Risultato della rivisitazione completa delle generazioni ZJ/WJ, questa Grand Cherokee coniugava lusso e potenza ad una qualità di guida silenziosa e confortevole. Gli ingegneri Jeep lavorarono duramente per migliorare le prestazioni su strada e dotarono il veicolo di sospensioni anteriori indipendenti a doppi triangoli sovrapposti. A ciò si aggiungeva la possibilità di scegliere tre diverse motorizzazioni, tra cui il potente propulsore V-8 HEMI^® da 5,7 litri e 330 CV. La Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 del 2006 era equipaggiata con un motore V-8 HEMI da 6,1 litri in grado di erogare 420 CV di potenza e 420 lb.-ft. di coppia, cerchi leggeri da 20” e freni Brembo a quattro pistoni. The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee two-row and its 4xe electrified version are scheduled to start production at the Mack Assembly Plant later in 2021.
 
Jeep legendary 4x4 capability
The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L delivers improved unrivaled capability along with composed on-road driving dynamics. Legendary off-road capability begins courtesy of three 4x4 systems – Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II with rear electronic limited slip-differential (eLSD). All three systems are equipped with an active transfer case to improve traction by moving torque to work with the wheel with the most grip.
 
Quadra-Trac I is a single-speed active transfer case that uses input from multiple sensors in the vehicle to pre-emptively adjust torque distribution and will continue to reactively make corrections if tire slip occurs. When wheel slippage is detected, as much as 100 percent of available torque is instantly routed to the axle with the most traction. 
 
The Quadra-Trac II’s two-speed active transfer case with low-range gear reduction uses input from multiple sensors in the vehicle to pre-emptively adjust torque distribution and will continue to reactively make corrections if tire slip occurs. When wheel slippage is detected, as much as 100 percent of available torque is instantly routed to the axle with the most traction. Active 4-Low torque control with 2.72:1 gear ratio improves off-road maneuverability and delivers uncompromised performance.

Quadra-Drive II, with a two-speed active transfer case and rear eLSD, delivers industry-leading tractive capability. The system instantly detects tire slip and smoothly reacts distributing engine torque to tires with traction. In some cases, the vehicle will anticipate low traction and pre-emptively adjust in order to limit or eliminate tire slip. Quadra-Drive II is available on the Overland 4x4 model when equipped with the Off-Road Group and standard on Summit models.
 
Quadra-Lift
The class-exclusive Jeep Quadra-Lift air suspension, now with electronic adaptive damping, delivers class-leading ground clearance and water fording. The system automatically adjusts the shock tuning to changing road conditions for enhanced comfort, stability and control.

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L’s Quadra-Lift system operates automatically, or may be controlled manually with console controls, and features five height settings for optimum ride performance:

• Normal Ride Height (NRH): 8.3 inches (212mm) of clearance offers improved fuel economy, as well as improved aerodynamics during on-road driving
• Off-road 1: Lifts the vehicle an additional 1.6 inches (40mm) from NRH for added height in clearing obstacles (9.9 inches)
• Off-road 2: Delivers legendary Jeep off-road capability and provides an additional 2.4 inches (60mm; 9 percent more range than previous generation) from NRH for increased, best-in-class ground clearance of 10.9 inches and up to 24 inches of water fording depth (improvement of four inches over previous generation)
• Park Mode: Lowers 1.8 inches (46mm) from NRH for easy ingress/egress, which levels down the vehicle twice as fast over the previous generation. NRH and Park Mode are driver selectable, giving the driver full control over vehicle ride height. Air suspension improvements include a dual tank design to enable more controlled and quicker functionality
• Aero Mode: Lowers the vehicle 0.8 inches (21mm) from NRH. Aero Mode is controlled by vehicle speed and adjusts for optimal performance and fuel economy. The vehicle will also lower to Aero Mode when in Sport Mode

Quadra-Lift adds up to 4.17 inches (106mm) of lift span supported by four-corner air springs that provide an air cushioned, premium ride. The crawl ratio on the Grand Cherokee L is 44:1.
 
With the available Quadra-Lift air suspension, the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L features a 30.1-degree approach angle, a 23.6-degree departure angle and 22.6-degree breakover angle.
 
Selec-Terrain
The 2021 Grand Cherokee L’s class-leading Selec-Terrain traction management system lets customers choose the on- and off-road setting for optimum 4x4 performance. This feature electronically coordinates up to six different powertrains, 4x4 torque split, braking and handling, steering and suspension systems, including throttle control, transmission shift, transfer case and traction control, stability control, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and steering feel.
 
The Selec-Terrain system offers five available terrain modes (Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, Mud/Sand) to provide optimized calibrations for any given driving scenario.
 
Hill-descent Control allows drivers to control Grand Cherokee L’s speed down steep, rugged grades with electronic paddle shifters standard on all models, without the need for throttle or brake pedals. Hill-descent Control is standard on Overland and Summit models and works both in forward and reverse.
 
When equipped with the available Off-Road Group, the Trail Rated Overland 4x4 model benefits from class-leading traction, ground clearance, maneuverability, articulation and improved water fording (capable up to 24 inches). The Off-Road Group also includes high-strength steel skid plates, electronic limited slip differential rear axle, 18-inch aluminum wheels and rugged, all-season performance tires.
 
All-new architecture delivers world-class driving dynamics and durability
The all-new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L receives a multitude of improvements to optimize ride, handling and quiet sound, while also reducing weight and improving fuel economy. A new unibody design along with three available 4x4 systems (Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II), an available Quadra-Lift air suspension and standard Selec-Terrain traction management system improve on Grand Cherokee’s legendary 4x4 capability.
 
The use of lightweight, high-strength aluminum closures, including the hood and tailgate, help reduce weight and boost fuel economy. The Jeep engineering team reduced weight by mounting the axle directly to the engine, along with a solid-mounted aluminum front cradle, aluminum engine mounts and steering gear, a magnesium cross-car beam, aluminum shock towers and an all-new electronic master brake booster system. To help meet weight, impact and to improve durability, the Grand Cherokee L body structure employs the latest grades of Generation 3 steel. The next-generation steel gave engineering and design teams the ability to cold stamp complex parts from higher strength materials, which was not possible in the past, creating a more robust and innovative body structure.
 
Jeep engineers put substantial emphasis on designing a body structure that is both strong and lightweight, balanced yet functional. To achieve this, Grand Cherokee L is composed of more than 60 percent advanced high-strength steel to aid in ductility, usability and energy absorption.
 
Jeep Grand Cherokee is widely known for its outstanding on-road driving dynamics and quietness, thanks in part to its front and rear independent suspension. For 2021, Grand Cherokee L employs a newly located front virtual ball joint to improve lateral control and a multi-link rear suspension that enables improvement in ride comfort and routine handling. An enhanced engine box with a shock-to-shock tower brace improves local lateral stiffness by 125 percent. A new variable-rate air spring suspension continuously adjusts stiffness to loading conditions to further compliment the vehicle’s legendary off-road capability. Premium manners are enhanced with approximately 6,500 welds in the body alone.
 
The Grand Cherokee L’s air suspension system boasts several enhancements to deliver a smooth, comfortable ride both on- and off-road:

• The closed loop air suspension system reuses clean air, resulting in improved compressor durability
• To quickly change vehicle ride height, the Quick Down Leveling (QDL) feature uses an external valve block and secondary air reservoir, which allows for both axles to lower simultaneously compared with single axle lowering in previous generations. QDL enables faster easy entry setting from normal height
• Electrically controlled, semi-active shocks on Grand Cherokee models equipped with air suspension continuously adjust to road conditions and driving styles to create the optimum ride comfort for all driving situations

For the first time ever on Grand Cherokee, the front axle is bolted directly to the engine to allow for better management of noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) and superior driving dynamics thanks in part to its lower center of gravity. New active/electronic engine mounts absorb more vibration and movement when at idle, but stiffen at higher speeds to optimize ride glide. This is a new feature available on Grand Cherokee and offers a new level of comfort, versatility and performance. An enhanced active noise cancellation system, along with a double-dash body, door seals and acoustic glass round out the enhancements that bring NVH and wind noise down to a whisper.
 
Grand Cherokee’s electric power steering (EPS) has been carefully calibrated to deliver a superior driving feel and consume less energy. The electric motor works with an adaptive engine control unit (ECU) to monitor steering speed, steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This allows for varying levels of steering assistance to be applied, for example, when more is needed at low speeds, such as maneuvering through a parking lot, or less when at highway speeds, to enhance overall driver confidence. The EPS system uses a variable-rate ratio to improve maneuverability while maintaining on-center stability in all driving conditions.
 
Award-winning powertrains
The all-new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L offers buyers a choice of two powerful, fuel-efficient and refined engines with proven performance for any driving situation.
 
Standard is the all-aluminum 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine, rated at 290 horsepower and 257 lb.-ft. of torque. Lauded for its power and refinement, the 60-degree angle between the Pentastar V-6’s cylinder banks make it inherently smooth running, augmented by accessories that bolt directly to the engine block. A seven-time winner of the Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems award, the Pentastar V-6 engine is compact, with features such as exhaust manifolds integrated into the cylinder heads.
 
Chain-driven dual overhead camshafts include two-step variable valve lift and variable-valve timing (VVT). This combination quickly tailors engine output to the demands of the driver for the best balance of performance and fuel economy.
 
Fuel-saving engine stop-start (ESS) technology is standard on the Pentastar V-6. The ESS system has been upgraded and refined for the Grand Cherokee L. Changes include a pressure reserve element in the eight-speed transmission, which provides dedicated transmission fluid to the shift elements at engine restart for a quick launch. Refined powertrain controls and new starter technology minimize early engine restarts from minor movements of the driver’s foot on the brake pedal. Restart noise, vibration and harshness have been reduced via revised controls and switchable engine mounts.
 
The 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine is rated for a towing capacity of up to 6,200 pounds and an estimated class-leading driving range of nearly 500 miles.
 
VVT with dual-independent cam phasing enables better fuel efficiency across a wide torque band in the Pentastar V-6. Nearly 90 percent of the engine’s peak torque is available from 1,800 to 6,400 rpm – an important consideration when towing or hauling. 
 
Buyers who want more power can opt for the award-winning 5.7-liter V-8, rated at 357 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque delivered over a broad power band.
 
The V-8, with a foundation of a cast-iron block and aluminum cylinder heads, delivers performance and efficiency with VVT and Fuel Saver Technology (cylinder deactivation). With Fuel Saver Technology, the engine control computer turns off fuel and spark and closes the valves to four of the engine’s cylinders during light-load operation, such as highway cruising, when full power is not needed. The system immediately re-engages the deactivated cylinders when the driver presses on the accelerator pedal.
 
The 5.7-liter V-8 has a class-leading towing capacity of up to 7,200 pounds.
 
The Grand Cherokee L’s V-8 engine uses cylinder shut-off technology that deactivates four cylinders during light acceleration or cruising situations on the highway. The system is active in an expanded region with respect to the previous generations and is unnoticeable to the driver. It provides V-8 power for acceleration and heavy loads and four-cylinder operation when the torque requirement is less than the maximum available from four cylinders. Depending on the driving scenario, cylinder shutoff can increase fuel economy from 5 to 20 percent.
 
Fuel economy is further enhanced with VVT technology that reduces the engine’s pumping work by closing the intake valve later and by increasing the expansion process of the combustion event. This allows more energy to be transferred to the wheels instead of being lost out of the exhaust as heat. VVT also improves engine breathing, which improves engine efficiency and power. 
 
Each engine mates to the durable, robust TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, which enhances fuel economy and delivers crisp and smooth gear changes. The widespread of gear ratios helps keep the engine rpm in the ideal range for the task – whether it's cruising on the highway or exploring off-road trails. On-the-fly shift-map changing enables the transmission to quickly adjust its shift strategy to match the driver’s demands based on inputs, such as engine torque changes, hill detection, temperature and longitudinal and lateral acceleration.
 
New for the 2021 Grand Cherokee L 4x4 is front axle disconnect. If the vehicle senses that road conditions do not require all-wheel drive, the front axle disconnect automatically places the Grand Cherokee L in two-wheel drive, reducing drag on the driveline and improving fuel economy. Four-wheel drive automatically re-engages when the vehicle senses it is needed.

Exterior
From the moment Jeep introduced the Grand Cherokee in 1992, it presented the world something it had never seen before. The most celebrated SUV ever set a new industry benchmark and quickly became synonymous with upscale design and uncompromised capability. Fast forward decades later, the all-new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L continues to build on its proud legacy, while raising the bar in luxury and performance.

“The Jeep design team envisioned a modern aesthetic for the all-new 2021 Grand Cherokee L – they worked to sculpt it down and gave it a clean and updated premium appearance tailored for today's customer,” said Mark Allen, Head of Jeep Exterior Design, FCA. “The design for the first-ever three-row Grand Cherokee pays respect to its heritage and honors its utilitarian roots. The results reflect its premium characteristics, contemporary style and legendary capability that has defined the Grand Cherokee since its inception.”
 
The proportion of the all-new Grand Cherokee L was inspired by the original Wagoneer, first full-size luxury SUV from Jeep. Grand Cherokee L’s lean profile features a longer hood and cab, which shifts the vehicle rearward to give a sense of motion with a ready to react response. A forward-tipped grille further enhances the length of the hood and gives a respectful nod to Wagoneer’s iconic design. A lowered, tapered roof improves aerodynamic performance and efficiency without sacrificing its cargo spaciousness and utility.
 
Most notably transformed is the face of the Grand Cherokee L. All-new slim LED headlights are the primary focal point and accentuate the technical character of the vehicle. The signature seven-slot grille has been updated to be wider with larger individual openings and is outlined in elegant trim that underscores its advanced lighting and emphasizes the width of the vehicle. Below the grille, the new front fascia is proportionally larger than previous generations, designed for function while keeping the competitive approach angle for which the Grand Cherokee is known. Its geometric shape conveys purpose while adding a slight formality to the overall front theme. The larger opening with textural elements conceals an all-new, long-range radar component and other advanced technology features, including active grille shutters, to help improve on-road performance and fuel efficiency.
 
From the side, a lowered beltline and expansive glass allow for a more spacious cabin and increased visibility. The roofline appears to float courtesy of a new window molding design that begins at the base of the side mirror and travels continuously to the rear quarter window and to the base of the back light. This trim treatment stands out even more when selecting the Gloss Black roof, which is available for the first time on Overland models and comes standard on Summit models. A new roof rack design consists of a singular side rail cap to create a seamless appearance. Body cladding and bright work have been kept to a minimum to align with the vehicle’s modern tailored aesthetic.
 
A widened track (36mm increase) gives the Grand Cherokee L’s stance a quiet confidence. The wheel flares are pulled tautly around the tires to strengthen the Grand Cherokee L’s stature. The tires are flush with the body side to showcase signature trapezoidal wheel arches and, for the first time on a Grand Cherokee, 21-inch wheels come standard with the Summit Reserve Package. 
 
Continuing with its modern theme, the rear of the vehicle is tailored and the lowered beltline contributes to the expansive rear window. Sleek, high-set LED taillamps are designed to visually distribute the rear proportions and reinforce the technical aspect of the vehicle. A unique character line directly below the taillamps provides a visual break and carries around to the side of the vehicle to unite the rear and body side in a harmonious way. A new rear fascia and LED fog lamps are underscored by accent trim that corresponds with the front and provides visual width to the rear.
 
New vertical-pillar spoilers added to the tailgate help reduce on-road drag. A rearview camera with washer has been tucked neatly into the tailgate spoiler, which also features a new LED center high-mounted stop lamp. Other rear elements, including a standard integrated tow hitch cover and fascia-mounted exhaust tips, provide a finished, custom look. Overland and Summit models come standard with a hands-free, foot-activated power liftgate. 
 
For the first time, a premium, full suite of LED lighting is standard on all Jeep Grand Cherokee trim levels, which allowed for design flexibility and helped to shape the identity of the vehicle.
 
Ultra slim headlamps with unique signature lighting set into Gloss Black bezels, along with slim horizontal fog lamps, express the serious nature of the front end and allow the Grand Cherokee L to be instantly recognizable both during the day and at night. 
 
In the rear, ultra slim taillamps with unique lit signatures complete the lighting story. Additional elements include approach-lit door handles and puddle lighting projected from the rearview mirror, which are standard on the Overland and Summit models. 
 
Interior
When it came to the interior design of 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, the team’s objective was to create one of the most exquisite and technically advanced interiors in the industry. The next-generation interior evolves to create a more refined expression, featuring handcrafted materials with an attention to detail and modern amenities that pair seamlessly with its new lean and tailored exterior.
 
“The objective for the interior design team was to create a unique statement for 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. We viewed the overall design process through a wide lens that allowed us to use a new generation of Jeep interiors,” said Chris Benjamin, Head of Jeep, Chrysler and Advanced Interior Design, FCA. “While the Jeep Grand Cherokee interior has been synonymous with sophistication, our approach to the three-row version was to showcase distinguished details, handcrafted materials and modern amenities that pair seamlessly with its tailored exterior.”
 
Immediately upon entry, the driver and front passenger will notice how the Grand Cherokee L’s new layout adds dimension and symmetry. The instrument panel has been proportioned and angled to create spaciousness that is celebrated through an expressive contrast of warm authentic materials and sleek modern technologies.
 
Harmonious surface language is conveyed by a sculpted, horizontal applique that runs the entire length of the front panel. Focus is drawn to a structural metal trim that stretches the length of the panel and sweeps upward to offset new slim HVAC vents. The sleek trim frames the sculpted natural wood accent, which is offered in open-pore Absolute Oak on Summit and open-pore Waxed Walnut on the Summit Reserve Package. The layering of the wood, leather and metal materials emphasizes the horizontal theme and surrounds passengers with a visual masterpiece.
 
The rich mix of materials are contrasted by the sophisticated execution of the center stack, which has been realigned and is now even more accessible to the driver. A bright, structural element neatly frames the next-generation, 10.1-inch display for the new Uconnect 5 system. Also new is a 10.25-inch frameless digital gauge cluster with nearly two dozen different menus from which the user can select, including driver-assist technologies such as adaptive cruise control, highway assist, night vision, drowsy driver detection and speed limit traffic signs display (if equipped). To control the digital cluster, the Grand Cherokee L features an all-new multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters. Summit models come standard with a leather-wrapped Absolute Oak steering wheel, and the Summit Reserve Package adds Waxed Walnut wood accents.
 
The console has been reimagined and now boasts an all-new layout featuring a glossy Piano Black finish. The center console is highlighted by an all-new drive control center with a backlit, metal rotary shifter that delivers haptic feedback when engaged. To emphasize its authentic Jeep character, the shifter is flanked by the ride height and Selec-Terrain switches. New streamlined cup holders allow for more space and storage in the front bin, which can hold two wireless devices and features an optional wireless charger that can charge two devices simultaneously.
 
An all-new Jeep seating architecture has been introduced on the Grand Cherokee L, featuring a length-adjustable cushion for the front row in Overland and Summit models, which is an FCA first. First-row seats with power 16-way adjustable position with memory and lumbar are available on Overland and standard on Summit. Seat back massage that includes five customizable profiles with three levels of pressure intensity is available on Overland and standard on Summit models. Heated seats in the first two rows, with three-level configurable controls for personalized passenger comfort, are standard on Limited models and above. Ventilated front-row seats are available on Limited and standard on Overland and Summit models. Ventilated seats in the second row come standard on the Summit Reserve Package.
 
In the rear cabin of Summit models, standard captain’s chairs flank a new second-row console that provides generous storage and cup holders. The console was designed similarly to the front console, while sculpted for functionality and uncompromised leg and foot room for third-row occupants. For all models, the rear cabin features soft armrests color-keyed to the leather seats, additional storage and cup holders, plus a class-leading number of 12 USB Type A and Type C ports for wireless devices.
 
A full suite of all-new customizable interior LED lighting with daytime/nighttime settings is now standard on all models. True ambient lighting with a five-color selection, an FCA first, casts an inviting glow along the entire instrument panel, as well as the front and rear doors. This feature is standard on the Overland and Summit models for a personalized sensory experience.
 
Passenger comfort is elevated in Summit models with four-zone automatic temperature control, which has the capability to select different fan levels and modes for individual passengers in the first and second rows. The system also offers four different temperature settings. For the first time in an FCA vehicle, the second- and third-row vents, now wider and slimmer, are placed in the pillars, as opposed to overhead, to better target passenger comfort zones without compromising headroom or visibility.
 
Grand Cherokee L introduces a new premium package, Summit Reserve, that sets the benchmark for luxury in the full-size SUV segment. Premium hand-wrapped, quilted Palermo leather, ventilated front and second-row seats, memory and massage front seats and choice of a new Tupelo interior color add distinguishable details to the model. Also unique to the Summit Reserve Package is genuine open-pore Waxed Walnut wood and premium, wrapped, suede-like fabric on the A-pillars and headliner.

Available first in the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, FCA is currently the only automotive manufacturer in the world to carry a McIntosh audio sound system. The premium McIntosh audio system is available on Overland and Summit models and comes standard with the Summit Reserve Package. The advanced, high-performance audio system features a 17-channel amplifier with a maximum output of 950 watts and 19 speakers, including a 10-inch subwoofer, to envelope vehicle occupants in high-definition sound. The shared vision between FCA and McIntosh design teams resulted in a Jeep audio system with the same level of authenticity and design quality found on McIntosh home audio products. The system accentuates the updated and premium feel of the vehicle’s new interior design. Metal accents on Piano Black surfaces, illuminated branding and McIntosh’s signature blue-glowing power meter further exemplify the modern touches of luxury within the cabin’s interior. 

Overland and Summit models include the CommandView dual-pane sunroof with a power sunshade (available on Limited). The Laredo model features an available single-pane sunroof.
 
New levels of dimensionality
Designed to maximize overall passenger comfort, the all-new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L delivers unsurpassed third-row capacity and increased cargo volume. The vehicle’s 121.7-inch (3,091mm) wheelbase creates generous interior room and gives passengers expansive, class-leading legroom in the second row.
 
For improved vehicle access, Grand Cherokee L features larger second-row door openings than previous generations. They open 64 degrees with an ingress/egress exterior side step.
 
Inside, premium seating includes room for six or seven passengers. The second row comes with standard “tip and slide” bucket seats (optional bench), 7 inches (180mm) of fore/aft travel and an available power-folding third row. Second-row bucket seats can be easily moved to create expansive passage to the third row. Child safety seats installed in the second row do not have to be removed to access the third row. Designed with passenger comfort in mind, the spacious third row provides 37.3 inches (947mm) of head room.

For added driver comfort and convenience, a car-molded plastic dead pedal and integrated side-door storage bin for a wireless device come standard on all models. To make passengers more comfortable, the second-row seats recline 18 degrees.
 
Grand Cherokee L delivers increased rear cargo volume behind the second row (46.9 cu. ft.). The third-row seat features a 50/50 split and is easily folded from the rear of the vehicle. For even more utility, both the second- and third-row seats fold forward into a flat-load floor. When the second- and third-row seats are folded flat, the maximum cargo space is 84.6 cu. ft.
 
The design of Grand Cherokee L allows increased visibility compared with previous generations, delivering best-in-class side-window visibility for all seating rows. Noticeable improvements were made to address and minimize side- and rear-view pillar obscurations (visibility improvement of seven degrees). The use of expansive glass allows for a more spacious cabin and also contributes to greater visibility.
 
The Grand Cherokee L is the first FCA vehicle to feature an electronic remote release in the rear cargo area to quickly and effortlessly fold the second row flat (standard captain’s chairs and optional bench). The feature is standard on Overland and Summit.
 
A programmable height feature that allows the liftgate opening to be set at a chosen degree is standard on Limited, Overland and Summit models and available on Laredo. Overland and Summit models come standard with a hands-free, foot-activated power liftgate. 
 
Most advanced, high-tech safety and security features in its class 
The all-new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L offers more than 110 safety and security features, including innovative applications of technologies that refine the connection between driver, vehicle and the road.
 
Segment-leading innovation
The Grand Cherokee L arrives with a class-leading suite of features that deliver on the promise of driving confidence, for which the Jeep brand is renowned. These features enhance a driver’s field of vision, help make instrumentation easier to see and enable driver-assist capabilities that accommodate collision avoidance.
 
Active Driving Assist is FCA’s name for Level 2 (L2) automated driving capability and the technology affirms the company’s march toward an autonomous future. The Grand Cherokee L is available with Active Driving Assist for hands-on-wheel and eyes-on-road automated driving using lane-centering with adaptive cruise control. The system uses multiple sensors, including radars and cameras to dictate appropriate roads for the technology. Active Driving Assist is available on Overland and standard on Summit models.
 
Hands-free Active Driving Assistis FCA’s name for hands-free L2 assisted driving and will be available in late 2021 for 2022 model-year Grand Cherokee L Overland and Summit models. It offers hands-free driving at all speeds and lane centering on approved roadways for even greater driving convenience. The system also will predictively slow the vehicle down in tight curves and automatically resume control after the driver overrides and verifies that he or she is paying attention to the road.
 
Night Vision Camera, available on Overland and Summit models, uses thermographic technology to augment the reach of the Grand Cherokee L’s headlamps. Infrared sensors search for the heat signatures of pedestrians and animals in the road ahead, at distances up to 219 yards (200 meters). When located, an alert with their positions relative to the vehicle are outlined in the instrument cluster directly in front of the driver.
 
Ergonomics are a key benefit of the available, full-color Head-up Display (HUD). Available on Overland and Summit models, the system provides the driver with up to five different information elements, including Active Lane Management, adaptive cruise control, turn-by-turn navigation, current speed, current gear and speed limit.
 
Intersection Collision Assist helps detect vehicles approaching from the driver’s left and right when nearing a crossroad. Four radar sensors and one camera determine if a collision appears imminent, prompting the system to provide audible and visual alerts. If the driver does not respond, the system automatically activates the vehicle’s brakes. The feature is standard on Summit models.
 
Drowsy Driver Detection tracks vehicle movement, such as lane deviation, and interaction, such as steering-wheel input over time, for driving behavior consistent with that of a drowsy driver. When certain thresholds are reached, the system responds with audio and/or visual cautions for the driver to pull over. The feature comes standard on Summit models.
 
The Digital Rearview Camera system, optional on Limited models and above, replaces the conventional rearview mirror with a 9.2-inch-wide Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) that shows real-time video from a rear-facing camera. Unlike a conventional rearview mirror, the new digital camera system offers a view that is unobstructed by the D-pillars or rear seats. When not in use as a display, the screen reverts back to a reflective mirror.

Traffic Sign Recognition, standard on Summit models, uses a forward-facing camera to identify speed limit and related traffic signs, such as those denoting school and construction zones.
 
An additional safety and security feature on Grand Cherokee L is Surround View Camera. Available on Limited and Overland, standard on Summit models, the system offers 360-degree, bird’s-eye views of the vehicle and its surroundings, enhanced by dynamic gridlines displayed on a 10.1-inch digital touchscreen. With front and rear lens washers, the system is enhanced by ParkSense front park assist, which helps the driver orient the vehicle.
 
Equipment levels on the Summit model are elevated even further with standard Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist, which uses ultrasonic sensors to guide the driver into parking spaces. FCA is the first automaker to use this technology with a live, dedicated view on the infotainment screen for easy viewing.

Standard-equipment active head restraints help mitigate injury risks associated with rear collisions, while there are three LATCH positions for safety-seat placement when the vehicle is configured with a second-row bench.

Rear-seat monitoring camera
The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L includes an available rear-seat monitoring camera system, which projects a best-in-class, high-definition image and delivers several segment-exclusive features, including a clear view of second-row, rear-facing child seat occupants, a split-view display and a unique “zoom-to-seat” function.

Rear-seat camera views are accessible through the 10.1-inch Uconnect touchscreen and allow the driver to quickly view the entire cabin, as well as easily zoom in on each seat location. Memory setting functions keep the zoomed image focused on the most recent position viewed, aiding in ease of use and limiting driver distraction.
 
The camera is positioned on the headliner between the second- and third-row seats. Three infrared lights surround the camera and illuminate the cabin in low-light conditions. The system automatically switches between day and night modes for added visibility and convenience. The rear-seat monitoring camera is available on Limited, Overland and Summit models.
 
Digital firsts
The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is the first production Jeep vehicle to offer a fully digital rearview mirror. The digital rearview mirror displays video in real time from a rear-facing camera, offering an image that is unobstructed by the D-pillars or rear seats. It also reverts back to a traditional reflective mirror. The digital rearview mirror is available on Limited, Overland and Summit models and provides an unobstructed rear view that enhances safety and prevents accidents.
 
Additionally, the Grand Cherokee L is the first production Jeep vehicle to offer a windshield HUD. Available on Overland and above, the full-color display is configurable up to 10 inches and features three predefined configurations and a custom mode with a choice of four reconfigurable layouts. The HUD provides key vehicle information to the driver including, speed, speed limit, navigation and driver assist systems. All HUD settings can be personalized and saved within the driver profiles.
 
Also new for Grand Cherokee L is a standard 10.25-inch frameless digital gauge and cluster with nearly two dozen different menus from which the user can select, including driver-assist technologies, such as adaptive cruise control, Active Driving Assist, Night Vision, Drowsy Driver Detection and Traffic Sign Recognition (if equipped). Additional settings include media being played, caller identification, digital speed readout, drive modes or tire pressure. Also offered is a full-screen, turn-by-turn navigation map and off-road pitch-and-roll display. The full-color cluster features five reconfigurable tiles for at-a-glance data or quick and easy access to the most used information. Drivers may choose between analog or digital instrumentation. All cluster settings can be saved to a user profile as part of Grand Cherokee L’s full vehicle customization and automatically recalled for each driver. On-screen graphics are delivered in real-time, animated 3D.

Available first in the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, FCA is currently the only automotive manufacturer in the world to carry a McIntosh sound system.
 
Superior audio performance is delivered through 19 custom-designed speakers, including a 10-inch subwoofer that are strategically placed throughout the interior cabin for a powerful, authentic and detailed surround-sound experience. A 17-channel, 950-watt amplifier was specifically designed to power the speakers to provide clean, crisp high notes and deep, low frequencies throughout the cabin.
 
The premium McIntosh audio system for the Grand Cherokee L has been professionally tested and tuned to compliment the vehicle’s unique interior volume and layout. To help prevent damage to the speakers, the audio system is equipped with McIntosh’s Power Guard® Technology. The position of the speakers within the vehicle cabin and other built-in technologies, including a Low Distortion/High Performance (LD/HP) design, helps lower distortion and provides an unparalleled listening experience.
 
In addition to an elegant sound quality, the McIntosh system for the Grand Cherokee L is designed to complement the vehicle’s high-end interior and incorporate notable McIntosh design cues. Special attention to detail was given to ensure that the audio system’s ornate controls replicated the look of McIntosh amplifier control knobs. The McIntosh logos on the door speaker grilles are LED backlit in the brand’s signature blue color to compliment the interior’s new custom ambient lighting. Manufacturing: Proudly built in the Motor City
The all-new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is built at the new Detroit Assembly Complex – Mack Plant, the city’s first new manufacturing facility in nearly three decades. FCA invested $1.6 billion to build a 790,000-square-foot paint shop and to convert the two original Mack Avenue engine plants into an entirely new assembly site. The investment also added 3,850 new jobs to support production of the first ever three-row Jeep Grand Cherokee, as well as the new two-row version and future electrified models. The plant is scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2021.
 
Intricate route to superior quality
It’s one thing to reimagine the world’s most-awarded SUV on paper; it’s quite another to ensure it looks and performs the way it should on (and off) the road.
 
To launch the all-new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, FCA engineers leveraged decades of intellectual capital and allowed themselves to be guided by the adventurous spirit of Jeep customers.
 
“There’s a reason Jeep customers are so demanding,” says Mark Champine, Head of Quality, FCA – North America. “They’ve grown accustomed to going wherever they want, whenever they want, with a spirit that’s unique to Jeep. It’s our job to deliver on those expectations.”
 
Gap and flush
While the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee L leads its competitors by a wide gap, FCA is laser focused – literally – on minimizing gaps.
 
The newly constructed Detroit Assembly Complex – Mack, which is home to the Grand Cherokee L, features a measurement cell that combines laser light with radar to check body-panel geometry. Every vehicle built at the new site passes through this cell, which helps ensure fit and finish that is precise and uniform.
 
Previously employed by FCA in a body-shop application, the cell at Detroit Assembly Complex – Mack marks the first application of “gap and flush” technology at the end of a production line.

The technology affords greater repeatability and accuracy than conventional camera-based measuring systems. As a result, the distinctive silhouette of each and every Grand Cherokee L mirrors the thoughtful vision of Jeep designers.
 
More Chalma
FCA’s new manufacturing site also boasts a track where specially trained workers conduct confirmatory testing for high-priority attributes, such as cabin-quiet. But the 2021 Grand Cherokee L’s road to superior quality actually started inside a microprocessor and wound its way to Detroit from central Mexico, via FCA’s proving grounds in nearby Chelsea, Michigan.
 
Usage data was collected from owners of previous-generation Grand Cherokee vehicles. Once analyzed, the direction was clear: To further boost body/chassis durability, another key customer demand, FCA engineers called for “more Chalma.”
 
The name honors a route just south of Mexico City that was once so rugged as to be nearly impassable. Recreated in unforgiving concrete at FCA’s Chelsea Proving Grounds, “Chalma Road” is pocked with potholes, killer cobblestones and two kinds of treacherous trenches – diagonal and transverse.
 
The Grand Cherokee L’s design benefits from 1,000 hours of tortuous testing on this hostile highway. Which is only fitting, Champine says, because “the only things tougher than Jeep brand vehicles are their owners.”
 
Established legacy of luxurious, capable Jeep SUVs
Built on 80 years of legendary heritage, every Jeep vehicle has a remarkable lineage and unique personality. Each is authentic with class-leading capability and versatility. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is no exception. The initial debut of the Grand Cherokee set a new industry benchmark for luxury and capability and ushered in four celebrated generations that would lead to it becoming the most awarded SUV in history.
 
First- and second-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ/WJ): 1993-2004
The Jeep Grand Cherokee made its infamous debut by crashing through the convention center glass at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on January 7, 1992. The first SUV equipped with a driver-side air bag, it set new standards for on-road ride, handling and comfort in an SUV. The 105.9-inch-wheelbase Grand Cherokee took refinement to a new level. A new Quadra-Coil suspension featured a coil/multilink configuration. A 5.2-liter V-8 engine was offered as an option and a Dana 44 rear axle was available for some models.
 
Third-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK): 2005-2010
A complete redesign of the ZJ/WJ, the all-new Grand Cherokee combined power, luxury and a significantly quieter, more comfortable ride. Jeep engineers worked hard to improve on-road refinement by adding a short/long-arm independent front suspension. The ground-up transformation continued with a choice of three power plants, including the mighty 330-horsepower 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 engine. The 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 featured a 6.1-liter HEMI V-8 with 420 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque, 20-inch lightweight forged wheels and four-piston Brembo brakes. The available full-time Quadra-Drive II 4x4 system featured front and rear limited slip differentials and a center differential-lock that operated in low-range.

Fourth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK2): 2011-present
All-new for 2011 and more than 4 million sales after the introduction of the first Grand Cherokee, Jeep improved the formula to deliver the perfect blend of on-road refinement and off-road capability, with improved fuel economy, a world-class interior, a sleek new exterior design and a host of safety and technology features. A Trailhawk model was introduced in 2017 with standard Quadra-Lift air suspension, the Quadra-Drive II 4x4 system, all-terrain tires and a Skid Plate Package. The new Trackhawk was released as the quickest and most powerful SUV ever. Mha l'esterno non mi convince. Il muso praticamente è una muraglia cinese, troppo americano come stile. Dietro nutro una profonda insofferenza per questi fari sottili a sviluppo orizzontale, che ormai imperversano su qualsiasi modello, di qualsiasi marchio e che mi hanno veramente stancanto. Una vota sti fanali posteriori erano molto caretterizzanti e ogni auto aveva i suoi particolari, ora li fanno tutti così.

Tanto non mi piace fuori, quanto invece altyrettanto tanto mi piace dentro. Stupenda la plancia, molto ben raccordarta coi pannelli porta, il tablet ben integrato nella console e hanno mantenuto i comandi fisici. Direi che sono fra i migliori interni che abbia visto ultimamente: un mix di eleganza, lusso e teconologia.

Fuori una delusione.. quello attuale sembra più moderno e equilibrato questo sembra uscito negli anni 70

Dopo averlo visto sono quasi tornato etero...

 

Scherzi apparte, emana testosterone...

ma a vederla così è molto massiccia, la precedente aveva proporzioni più aggraziate, specialmente nel frontale.

 

Gli interni sono molto belli, ottima integrazione tra tablet e comandi fisici, ha tutto quello che serve per essere pratica durante la guida e avere un aspetto moderno.

Belli anche gli accostamenti cromatici.

 

Ingombrante sicuramente, ma per me è promosso.

 

E' stupendo!

Nel complesso è apprezzabile, al momento la preferisco dentro rispetto a fuori, attendo le foto/video live per una valutazione migliore. 

 

La zona centrale della plancia mi ha in parte ricordato Maserati Quattroporte. 

 

Curioso di capire anche le motorizzazioni che adotta. 

Direi ottimo anche se molto americana.

 

Interni per me top, gia’ il fatto che abbiano mantenuto comandi fisici per clima meritano 5 stelle
