Fabrizio Giugiaro and Lapo Elkann unveil two one-off based on the New Fiat Topolino in a world premiere.

A shared passion for cars and design gives rise to two radically different interpretations of the new Topolino.
The cars will be unveiled tomorrow, September 11, at Salone Auto Torino.

Take one of the smallest and most accessible cars on the road and turn it into something surprising -something capable of delivering emotion and fun.

That was the idea that inspired Fabrizio Giugiaro and Lapo Elkann to create Top. L and Top. J, two entirely new interpretations of the new Fiat Topolino.

At the heart of the project are a long-standing friendship, a shared love of cars and design and, above all, a desire to experiment.

Fabrizio and Lapo had wanted to create something together for a long time. For their first collaboration, they deliberately chose not to start with a powerful, exclusive and unattainable car.

Top. L and Top. J are born from a belief Fabrizio and Lapo have always shared: a passion for cars has nothing to do with horsepower.

Even the simplest car can become highly desirable and unique.

Two small exercises in creative freedom, marking the beginning of a journey that Fabrizio and Lapo intend to continue over time.

Top. L

Low, open, essential. And with a healthy dose of irreverence.

Top. L is the more emotional and sporting soul of the project: a pure two-seater, completely open, stripped of everything superfluous and transformed into a compact speedster with a bold personality.

Its inspiration comes from the world of the most iconic and rebellious sports cars, including James Dean’s legendary “Little Bastard.” Not as a literal reference, but as an attitude: that of a car capable of stirring emotion before it even starts moving.

The interior is upholstered in aquamarine leather, enhanced by Alcantara inserts, while the body is finished in a sophisticated matte aquamarine shade.

The result is an object that may be small in size but has a commanding presence: sophisticated, unexpected and endowed with a personality that does not need speed to attract attention.

If Top. L embraces sportiness, Top. J changes the rules entirely: four seats in a Topolino less than three meters long.

A completely unprecedented configuration, created to explore just how far the simplicity of this car can be pushed. With just a few carefully considered modifications, Top. J accommodates four people seated back-to-back, transforming the little Fiat into a sociable, shared experience.

The blue-and-green livery draws inspiration from the 1950s Ferrari 166 MM once owned by Lapo’s grandfather, Avvocato Gianni Agnelli, while also paying tribute to Umberto Agnelli, who loved personalizing his cars with details in shades of blue and green.

It is a design language Lapo had already explored at Garage Italia and which comes back to life with Top. J, this time on four wheels.

Top. J also does away with a conventional roof. A fabric canopy provides protection from the sun and rain without compromising the sense of freedom and lightness that runs throughout the project.

Inside, deliberately unconventional materials once again challenge expectations: terry cloth and leather, in shades of blue and green, create an environment that is both playful and sophisticated.

 

FABRIZIO GIUGIARO:

“This project was born first and foremost from our desire to have fun through design. I was fascinated by the idea of starting with a small, simple and accessible car like the Topolino and seeing just how far we could take it, allowing ourselves to be guided by emotion and creativity. Lapo and I have always shared a very free approach to cars: it doesn’t matter how big, powerful or expensive they are. If there is a strong idea behind it, any car can become special.”

 

LAPO ELKANN:

“Fabrizio and I had wanted to create something together for a long time. We share a friendship, a passion for cars, design and motion, and above all a lateral way of thinking. We had fun transforming the Topolino, playing with colors, materials and volumes.

“The names of the two cars are inspired by Love for Top. L and Joy for Top. J, two elements at the heart of our creative and emotional thinking. The two cars are very different, but they share the same spirit: they are free, irreverent and authentic.

“For me, a car has to convey emotion, whatever its engine size, price or speed. If it can make you smile before you even get in, then you have created something special.”

 

Top. L and Top. J will be unveiled to the public for the first time tomorrow, September 11, 2026, at Salone Auto Torino, at GFG STYLE stand.
