Il paradosso salta all’occhio immediatamente: un motore diesel di ultima generazione (Euro 4, anno 2006) emette 30 microgrammi di Pm10 per ogni chilometro percorso in città (dato che sale a 48 per i diesel Euro 3, anni 2001-2005). Il confronto: un’auto a benzina pre-Euro, immatricolata tra il 1984 e il ’92, emette 23 microgrammi al chilometro. Per completare il quadro bisogna dire che nelle macchine a benzina con motore Euro (da metà anni ’90) l’emissione si ferma a 0,8. Conclusione: tra le auto oggi sul mercato, il diesel inquina 30 volte più del motore a benzina.
