autocar la da per prossima Cayman R, forse con il 6 pot boxtsr di Carrera S

Porsche is developing a performance version of the Cayman which could wear the Cayman R badge when it goes on sale. This early test mule, spotted close to the Nürburgring, wears more aggressively styled bodywork than the standard car, including a new front bumper with larger air intakes and a new front splitter.

Painted performance brakes can also be seen on this test mule, as can a large rear spoiler akin to that used on the 911 GT3. This mule also appears to ride significantly lower than the standard Cayman. We expect the car to feature a stripped-out interior, too.

Rather than using the same 3.4-litre flat-six engine of the Cayman R for power, it's likely that this sportier version will take the 3.8-litre flat-six unit used by the 911 Carrera S, although tuned to produce less than the 400bhp of that car.

The Carrera S is capable of covering the 0-62mph sprint in 4.6sec and go on to a a top speed of 188mph. Despite being less powerful, expect significant improvements on the Cayman S's 0-62mph time of 4.9sec. Porsche's PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission should also feature.

Reports have suggested that Porsche has been planning to produce a hotter version of the Cayman for some time, with some suggesting that the model would carry the GT3 badge. However, it is now believed that Porsche will keep the GT3 badge exclusively for its halo 911 model.

The previous Cayman R ended production in 2012, and was one of our favourite sports coupés.

Judging by the early-stage appearance of this prototype, it's unlikely that this model will be seen in final production form before the end of next year
