[h=2]Tata teases new Kite hatch[/h]Tata has shared the first design sketch of its upcoming Kite (name not confirmed) hatchback model.

Scheduled to receive its premiere in the first week of December, the sub-compact car will be based on the Indica and will be offered as a hatchback and a sedan with the latter expected to debut in early-2016. Described as “all new” products, these two vehicles will replace the Indica and the Indigo eCS in private sales, while fleet sales of the old models will most likely continue.

Codenamed Kite 4, the hatch will come with three-cylinder petrol and diesel units, including a new 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine. There will also be a 1.05-lliter diesel motor, based on the current 1.4 diesel of the brand but featuring several friction reducing technologies. This engine will deliver 64 HP (47 kW) and 142 Nm (105 lb-ft) of torque that will be sent to the front wheels through a standard 5-speed manual gearbox or an optional automated manual transmission (AMT) taken from the Zest.

According to a recent report, the Kite 4 and Kite 5 (sedan) could get an e-clutch system that allows the driver to engage first gear without applying the clutch. This technology is said to be cheaper than the AMT and to be providing around 10 percent better fuel economy than the standard 5-speed manual.
