Curiosamente Z8 e barchetta hanno radici estremamente simili (e bisognerebbe esser ciechi per non accorgersene)

 

il progetto barchetta nasce alla fine del 1989 guidato allo stile da Andreas Zapatinas.

il progetto Z8 nasce nel 1992 guidato allo stile da Bangle e Fisker.

Bangle e  Zapatinas lavorarono a stretto contatto nel periodo di progettazione della barchetta, quando Bangle era ancora al centro stile Fiat.

 

Stiamo chiaramente parlando di due modelli con caratteristiche e prezzi totalmente diversi, BMW monta il motore della M5, un mostro, barchetta monta il brillante 1,8 litri a bilatero con variatore di fase.

BMW è a trazione posteriore, barchetta a trazione anteriore.

 

Impossibile non notare le proporzioni simili con cofano lungo, sedere corto fiancata bombata, persino certi dettagli come i gruppi ottici anteriori appaiono simili.

poi certo non stiamo parlando di due modelli concorrenti ma certamente Z8 e barchetta sono molto vicine come filosofia di design che si rifà in entrambe a rodaster del passato, Bmw 507 e ferrai 166M.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

il filo comune non e' Bangle ma proprio Zapatinas, amico intimo di Bangle,  Zapatinas era responsabile del Design delle sportive BMW dal 1994 fino a novembre 1998, prima del suo arrivo ad Alfa Romeo come direttore del centro stile.

The idea of building a modern-day 507 had been kicked around for years at BMW but the decision to go from a pipedream to production had its origin on May 3-4, 1993 during a Board of Directors retreat held at the Chateau de la Messardiere in St. Tropez, France. 

Eberhard von Kuenheim was retiring as Chairman of BMW and the board had brought along one of each of the cars built during his 23 years at the helm to honor his achievements. In addition, Herbert Dormeier, head of Overall Vehicle Development, decided to throw in a 507 roadster (built before von Kuenheim's time) to add a little spice to the collection. Despite its age, the 507 proved irresistable to all in attendance and soon fanned the flames of a modern-day interpretation into the fire that forged the Z07. 

Apparently, the main protagonists were the new Chairman Bernd Pischetsrieder and Research and Development Director Wolfgang Reitzle, but the entire board participated in the decision. Subsequently, Chris Bangle, then head of design, was asked to come up with some design concepts for the board to consider. He then offered the assignment to his staff, and Henrik Fisker volunteered, which resulted in the Z07 show car design for which he holds the patents.
