Buick to Introduce Its First Ultium-Based Electric Vehicle in China

 

SHANGHAI – Buick announced today that it will introduce its first electric vehicle in China developed on GM’s revolutionary Ultium platform later this year. Deliveries of the five-seat SUV will begin in the first half of 2023. It will be followed by a second Ultium-empowered EV, also next year.

“With the highly flexible Ultium platform at their core, the new models will play a strategic role for Buick in China’s highly competitive EV market,” said Cesar Toledo, general director of Buick Sales and Marketing at SAIC-GM. “They will start a new chapter in the brand’s accelerated transformation toward electrification and intelligent mobility, reinforcing our commitment to bringing in the latest technologies to meet our customers’ evolving needs.”

Capitalizing on GM’s global EV expertise and local capability, the all-new Buick EV SUV will raise the bar for a safer, more intelligent and more premium EV mobility experience.

It will be equipped with an advanced battery cell tailored for China and apply GM’s nearly wireless battery management system, supporting optimal performance. At the same time, it will meet GM’s stringent standards for safety, reliability and durability, maximizing peace of mind.

Buick’s Ultium-based EVs will also feature a suite of other leading global technologies, including the enhanced Super Cruise driver assist technology as well as the new-generation Virtual Cockpit System jointly developed by GM and PATAC, GM’s automotive engineering and design joint venture in Shanghai.

Buick’s new EV models will be accompanied by the introduction of innovative sales and marketing services. By the end of 2023, up to 58 Buick EV City Showrooms will open across the country and more than 600 Buick NEV Zones will open across Buick’s dealership network.  

Additionally, Buick is establishing dedicated Buick charging facilities and partnering with mainstream third-party charging operators to make available over 400,000 charging poles across the country by the end of 2023.

In termini di dimensioni l'Electra E5 misura 4.892 mm di lunghezza, 1.905 mm di larghezza e 1.655 mm di altezza con un passo di 2.954 mm.

 

Sul fronte delle prestazioni ci sono pacchi batteria standard e a lungo raggio. Una batteria da 68,4 kWh viene fornita di serie e fornisce fino a 545 km di autonomia nel ciclo CLTC. Le varianti a lungo raggio hanno una batteria più grande da 79,7 kWh che aumenta l'autonomia fino a 620 km. Quando la batteria è scarica un caricabatterie rapido può portarla dal 30 all'80% in circa 28 minuti.

 

Il modello della gamma standard ha un motore elettrico montato anteriormente che sviluppa 241 CV (180 kW / 245 CV) e 243 lb-ft (330 Nm) di coppia. Ciò le consente di accelerare da 0 a 100 km/h in 7,6 secondi.

 

Il modello a lungo raggio è dotato di un motore elettrico più debole da 201 CV (150 kW / 204 CV) e lo 0-100 km/h è di 8,6 secondi. La velocità massima rimane invariata a 180 km/h.

 

Infine l'Avenir ha un sistema di trazione integrale a doppio motore che con una potenza combinata di 283 CV (211 kW / 287 PS) e 343 lb-ft (465 Nm) di coppia e raggiunge i 100 km/h in 6,7 secondi con una percorrenza di 603 km con una singola carica grazie al suo pacco batterie da 79,7 kWh.
