Volvo V40 and XC40 concepts teased

All-new Volvo '40 series' family teased ahead of next week's reveal; V40 and XC40 expected

The all-new Volvo V40 and XC40 are believed to have been officially pictured for the first time - although Volvo hasn't confirmed any details of the cars shown in its teaser images beyond hinting that they belong to the brand's smallest family of models, the '40 series'. 

A Volvo spokesperson could not specify what type of car the concepts would be when contacted by Autocar, but it is known that Volvo will reveal two separate concept cars next week. It was also confirmed that the two cars will sit on the all-new CMA platform, which has been co-developed with Volvo owner Geely and will underpin Volvo's smallest model range. CMA is designed to be premium enough to allow Geely to develop more upmarket products while supporting a more profitable, wider range of Volvo’s 40 series models.

Unusually, Volvo used the social network Snapchat to tease the pictures, which is believed to reflect the company's desire to attract younger buyers with its smaller, cheaper models. The caption on one of the images reads "Not your daddy's Volvo", again hinting that it will appeal to younger buyers.

The images also confirm that the concepts will closely follow Volvo's current design conventions, with 'Thor's Hammer' LED daytime running lights set in intricate light clusters and uncomplicated front-end styling. 

The next-generation Volvo V40 and XC40 will be powered by a mixture of three and four-cylinder engines, with plug-in hybrid and potentially fully electric versions of the cars also being developed.

The Volvo XC40 is strongly tipped to be the first model in the range to be launched, most likely in 2017, because of the sales potential of small crossovers in the current booming market. Insiders believe theInfiniti QX30 and Mercedes GLA rival could end up being the firm's best-selling model.

A Volkswagen Golf-rivalling V40 hatchback and a small Volvo S40 saloon, which will be in effect a rival for the Audi A3 saloon and theBMW 2 Series saloon, will then follow.

Visto che non sappiamo neanche il nome, al momento tengo aperto qua in spies.

Complimenti a Volvo. Assieme al gruppo Jag/Land/Range Rover ha il programma di rinnovamento del brand piu' grosso (anche in considerazione del fatto che sono Case piccole)

Attendiamo ulteriori foto, ma sin da ora (conoscendo i prodotti attuali) si puo' avere la "garanzia" che sia una bella vettura.

Non hanno appena presentato il facelift della vecchia?

Seguo le piccole Volvo dalla C30 che trovo ancora oggi magnifica. Ho una V40 che trovo ancora una delle più belle del segmento e si è dimostrata validissima (a parte quando devo farci entrare qualcuno o qualcosa: a quel punto si piange).

La cosa mi farebbe incazzare non poco, visto che ne ho una (validissima) in garage.

5 anni + 1 di approntamento.

E' durata pochino la V40, ma c'è da dire che quest'anno finisce il contratto di fornitura con Ford.

Per altro tutte le auto finiscono nel dimenticatoio.

spero che le nuove volvo mantengano ed evolvano il design della V40 che al momento è l' unica berlina media che quando passa mi volto a guardarla. Anzi... mi volvo a guardarla

E la 60? È + vecchia e penso avrebbe maggior bisogno di una sostituta , la 40 è ancora cosi giovane

Secondo me la migliore del segmento come design e comfort... Se quella che la va a sostituire porterà la raffinatezza e la tecnologia delle 90 sarà davvero imbattibile..
