Sovereignty in perfect form: New radiator grille signals status

One of the most striking changes is the even more prominent radiator grille, which is around 20 per cent larger than before. It now features four horizontal chrome bars instead of three, creating a particularly distinguished and status-enhancing appearance. For the first time in the history of the S‑Class, the grille is also illuminated. Tiny, hot-stamped stars in a chrome finish lend it a three-dimensional depth effect. As part of the Night Package, a dark chrome grille is available, paired with colour-matched flush door handles, among other features.

For the first time, the standard upright Mercedes star on the bonnet can be illuminated as an optional feature.[2] A high-gloss black insert visually links the headlamps and radiator grille as a single unit. With a new twin-star headlamp design, the S‑Class boasts a distinctive look by day and night. Another innovation is the optional integrated light projector[3] in the side sills, which casts Mercedes‑Benz lettering onto the ground to welcome and bid farewell.

The rear has also been reimagined: new taillights with three chrome-framed stars reinforce the model and brand image. The two-part trim strip on the boot lid, now finished in chrome and high-gloss black, is a testament to Mercedes‑Benz’s legendary attention to detail and provides a delicate finishing touch to the extensive exterior update.

Inside, the updated S‑Class is also a confident statement of status. The new instrument panel, door trim and centre console create an entirely new interior experience, blending digital and analogue luxury at the highest level. The highlight is the standard MBUX Superscreen, whose deliberately slender display unit appears to float above the trim surface. This extends into the doors, creating a new sense of spaciousness and generosity. The central air vents are now broader, forming a louvred band that also extends into the doors — a design cue echoed in the rear. The side air vents are innovatively integrated into the display landscape, while the seamless, three-dimensional lighting graphic surrounds the galvanised metal vent bodies.

The newly designed centre console further enhances comfort by emphasising the premium material experience with a larger trim surface. The centre consoles in front and rear can now be individually specified with a wide range of trim options. Three new trim designs make their debut: open-pore oak, a native wood that brings natural surface character to the S‑Class; open-pore amber-brown fishbone-pattern wood, where walnut features a V-groove and is tailored precisely to shape; and, as a technical-luxury counterpoint, a high-gloss metallic textile blend.

The new “Beech Brown” colour, inspired by the world of luxury fashion, is a highlight of the diverse interior palette. Contrasting piping and stitching in light tones showcase its luxurious character to perfection.

For the first time, the S‑Class is available with a leather-free interior in the progressive “stormy grey” shade. Alongside finely grained artificial leather, the high-grade “Mirville” mélange textile, crafted from linen and recycled polyester, is used. With its distinctive natural fibre look, this textile sets off the seat inserts and is paired with refined artificial leather side bolsters and deep white piping. An exclusive topstitching graphic, featuring open-edged diamond quilting that continues into the door panels, completes the package.

A wide range of customisation options through the MANUFAKTUR programme

For more than 120 years, Mercedes‑Benz has set the benchmark for automotive personalisation at the highest level—a legacy that continued in 2021 with the introduction of MANUFAKTUR, offering an even broader array of bespoke features. The new S‑Class is a prime example of the extensive individualisation options offered by the MANUFAKTUR programme. With a wide selection of exclusive paint finishes, leather and trim elements, the vehicle can be tailored almost entirely to individual preferences.

From 2026, the new S-Class will be available with additional MANUFAKTUR colours and further MANUFAKTUR options. A touch of stardust, for instance, is provided by the new MANUFAKTUR black sparkling exterior paint finish. The clearcoat over the deep black solid paint contains real glass flakes and sparkles like a starry sky. Also new is the MANUFAKTUR verdesilver magno paint finish as well as the interior colours tobacco brown, carmine red, lake green and corn yellow. The MANUFAKTUR Leather Package is now offered as an option in the S‑Class configurator, featuring a leather-lined roof, upholstered rear seat cushions and other exclusive leather-appointed elements.

Exceptional personalisation through dedicated one-on-one consultation

The new MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure individualisation programme elevates personalisation to an entirely new level, enabling customers to create a truly bespoke vehicle. It offers a broad selection of pre-approved options with fixed pricing and instant feasibility confirmation. For the new S‑Class, customers can choose from more than 150 paint colours and over 400 interior colours - and even explore the full spectrum of technically achievable colours, providing unmatched customisation options for both exterior and interior designs as well as additional equipment such as illuminated door sills with brand lettering, steering-wheel variants and emblem packages. Requests that go beyond this portfolio are assessed individually by the MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure experts.

With MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure, Mercedes‑Benz caters to its most discerning customers and delivers an exclusive, extraordinary experience. Consultations are provided by specially trained Made to Measure experts equipped with an extensive range of samples and materials. These tailored consultations can take place at the customer’s home, at a retailer or at one of the Made to Measure hubs.

The new Made to Measure Visualiser technology – a highly individualised consultation tool – allows experts to build immersive environments where customers can explore and visualise every detail of their ideal vehicle. The heart of the Made to Measure experience is the Center of Excellence, a pioneering facility near the Mercedes‑Benz main plant in Sindelfingen. This flagship location, staffed by the most experienced Made to Measure specialists, offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at interior craftsmanship – the essence of Mercedes‑Benz’s saddlery art. The new MANUFAKTUR Studio also provides a captivating view into a state-of-the-art, glass-walled facility where vehicle components are meticulously assembled in an advanced matrix production system.

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class – manufactured at the Sindelfingen plant

In 2026, production of the new Mercedes‑Benz S‑Class will begin at the Mercedes‑Benz plant in Sindelfingen. The top-end model is manufactured in Factory 56 – one of the most advanced assembly halls in the world. Flexible, digital, efficient and sustainable: Factory 56 embodies the future of production at Mercedes-Benz and sets new standards for the automotive industry when it opened. Thanks to maximum flexibility, Factory 56 enables the assembly of different models and drivetrains on a single line. At present, the Mercedes‑Benz S‑Class, the Mercedes‑Maybach S‑Class and the all-electric EQS are produced flexibly on one line.

High-precision elegance: New 20″ multi-spoke wheel[4] sets a new standard in design, manufactured with an innovative high-pressure casting method

The unique new 20″ multi-spoke wheel is produced using an innovative technology called ‘High-Pressure Casting’, which uses a precision-engineered mould to form complex aluminium components with exceptional accuracy and reduced weight, enabling new design possibilities and improved performance. Compared to traditional low-pressure die casting, the innovative ‘High-Pressure Casting’ allows significantly reduced draft angles, noticeably reduced castable thicknesses and more precise contours, resulting in very fine surfaces and therefore characteristic design themes. Mercedes‑Benz designers maximised these opportunities with the intriguing 50-cross-spoke expression to new aesthetic standards. ‘High-Pressure Casting’ also demonstrates advantages of sustainability, enabling lightweight construction and reduced machining requirements, thereby leading to a noticeable reduction in aluminium usage. Compared to traditional low-pressure die casting, the energy consumption is significantly decreased. Furthermore, a higher percentage of recycled aluminium can be utilised. The new 20″ multi-spoke wheel13F18F is presented in an attractive Tremolit Metallic High Sheen finish.

In addition, from market start, the new S‑Class offers further wheel choices, including a new 19-inch Mercedes‑Benz design, a 20-inch AMG Line wheel in several colour finishes and a new 21-inch AMG Line wheel colour option, giving customers even more freedom to tailor the car’s appearance.

Dynamic presence: AMG Line and AMG Line Plus

For customers who want a more expressive interpretation of the S‑Class, the AMG Line sharpens the car’s character with an AMG specific front bumper with large air intakes and chrome trim, a sporty rear apron and dynamic side skirts, complemented by AMG alloy wheels up to 21 inches. Inside, a sports steering wheel with a flattened lower section, stainless-steel pedals, exclusive sound profiles and a sporty red MBUX style underline the performance-focused atmosphere. Building on this, AMG Line Plus adds the Night Package, which can be chosen additionally to the AMG Line and darkens most bright and chrome elements on the exterior, giving the car a distinguished look, a distinctive 20-inch wheel with tinted clearcoat finish, dark chrome elements such as the tailpipes and boot-lid trim, as well as Nappa and Nappa Exclusive leather upholstery in black with grey contrast stitching, anthracite open-pore oak wood trim, illuminated black door sills with Mercedes‑Benz lettering and grey seatbelts for an even more exclusive and dynamic look.

Unparalleled protection, refined: The new Mercedes‑Benz S-Class GUARD with VR10, the highest civilian protection level

For almost 100 years, heads of state, business leaders and members of royal families have stepped into a Mercedes‑Benz special-protection vehicle with one expectation: to be as safe as possible – and yet to feel entirely at ease. As the home of protection in the Mercedes-Benz portfolio, the new Mercedes‑Benz S 680 GUARD 4MATIC combines an in-house developed Integrated Protection System (iSS) and a GUARD specific protective cell with a discreet aluminium outer skin is combined with a specially adapted chassis, engine and transmission. Despite the increase in weight, this ensures drivability, comfort, space and long-term durability at the level of a standard S-Class.

The S 680 GUARD combines the highest civilian protection level VR10[5], with the latest refinements of the new S-Class, now based on the latest generation of Mercedes-Benz technology. The S-Class GUARD is currently the only series-production limousine to offer certified VR10 ballistic protection for both transparent (glass) and opaque body areas (chassis) ex factory. The protective effect of its specially armoured passenger cell has been verified using biofidelic dummies whose physical properties closely replicate those of the human body. This enables potential injuries in the event of ballistic or explosive attacks to be identified directly. The result: the S 680 GUARD 4MATIC has passed all tests with the highest rating, with three out of three stars. The S 680 GUARD 4MATIC is powered by a 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine (450 kW/830 Nm), ensuring effortless, confident performance even in demanding situations.

Inside, customers can tailor materials, colours, equipment and the rear-compartment layout to their personal taste, working style and security needs, while benefiting from many of the refinements of the new S‑Class – from comfort and craftsmanship to digital services. For many, the MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment system with productivity-focused functions such as seamless video conferencing turns the rear cabin into a secure, fully connected business lounge.

Beyond the core protection package, a wide range of GUARD-specific equipment and options allows the S 680 GUARD 4MATIC to be configured precisely to its role and to demanding situations, while supporting safe day-to-day operation. The fire-extinguishing system, for example, can combat fires in the engine compartment or beneath the vehicle floor, while the emergency fresh-air system can help prevent harmful gases from entering the interior; if required and by the touch of a button, 900 litres of compressed-air provide a positive pressure within the passenger compartment to safely leave the danger zone. The Threat Alarm System (GAS) alerts the surroundings with visual and acoustic signals, and the integrated communication system allows occupants to speak with people outside the vehicle without opening doors or windows.

Optional servo-assisted front and rear doors enable effortless, even one-handed operation and stepless positioning, including on slopes. This is particularly important because the integrated protection components make the doors of the Mercedes-Benz S 680 GUARD 4MATIC significantly heavier than those of a conventional S‑Class. They can be opened and closed with minimal effort at the touch of a button, allowing the driver to remain fully focused on the surroundings. Additional GUARD specific options – from flagpoles for a representative appearance to hydraulic window lifters for discreet operation – further tailor the vehicle. Requirements beyond the standard equipment, such as special signalling systems, integrated document storage or bespoke electronic pre-installations, are developed together with the GUARD team as tailored solutions for authorities, governmental use and other highly specialised roles.

MB.OS, fourth-generation MBUX, MB.DRIVE and Surround Navigation

  • Next generation digital backbone: The new S‑Class is powered by the Mercedes‑Benz Operating System (MB.OS)- a new architecture which is the base for a new level of digital experience on every seat

  • DRIVE suite offers state-of-the-art advanced driving assistance and parking systems

  • Ultimate business saloon with fourth generation MBUX: Video conferencing from every seat – including on-the-move interior camera use

  • Reduced driver distraction: Dual Light Control hides passenger screen content from the driver when needed

  • Personalised digital experience: MBUX Zero Layer, app folders and ambient styles for a fully tailored cockpit

  • Immersive surround navigation: Real-time 3D view of the car and surroundings using game-engine graphics

  • MBUX Virtual Assistant: ChatGPT-4o–and Google Gemini-based, conversational, with expressive avatars including “LittleBenz”

  • Cinema and concert hall on board: Disney+, YouTube, RIDEVU, Audible and Amazon Music with Dolby Atmos®

Mercedes‑Benz has elevated the S‑Class to a new era of digital intelligence, powered by MB.OS using a completely redesigned electrical and electronic architecture—the car’s digital backbone. It’s a completely redesigned network of powerful computers connected by high-speed ethernet that gives access to every sensor, control unit and feature in the car. This advanced network makes the saloon think faster and act smarter, delivering an intuitive experience at every moment. For you, that means instant responses, seamless connectivity and effortless updates that keep your S‑Class evolving. Future-ready and up to date, it ensures every drive feels smarter, safer and more enjoyable.

Advanced driving and parking assistance systems: The MB.DRIVE suite

To provide top-tier driving assistance, every model comes equipped with a wide array of sensors: c These sensors work in conjunction with a high-performance control unit running on MB.OS. Artificial intelligence algorithms process the sensor data in real-time to understand the surrounding traffic conditions, and MBUX Surround Navigation keeps the driver informed of the car's environmental awareness, increasing trust in the technology. Depending on the chosen package, MB.DRIVE provides advanced support for cooperative steering, braking and acceleration. Over-the-air updates via the Mercedes‑Benz App enable customers to keep selected vehicle functions and services digitally up to date.

MBUX Superscreen, expansive trim surfaces and leather-free interior for the first time

The interior of the updated S‑Class is a new confident statement of status and comfort. The highlight is the standard MBUX Superscreen, which merges the active zones of the central and passenger displays (14.4 and 12.3 inches, respectively) beneath a single, continuous glass surface. The passenger display features a camera-based privacy function that minimises driver distraction while still providing the full functionality and interactive experience for the passenger for example, when a video is playing on the passenger side. The Dual Light Control (DLC) technology for the passenger display, developed by Mercedes‑Benz, prevents content from being seen peripherally by the driver when needed. This switchable technology can be activated or deactivated to control visibility for the driver. Emerging from the MBUX Superscreen is the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster (optionally available in 3D).

Boardroom on wheels: Larger 13.1-inch MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System with individual detachable remote controls and interior cameras makes every seat a meeting space

The S-Class elevates its role as the ultimate business saloon, offering productivity and entertainment upgrades for both front and rear passengers. Rear occupants benefit from an improved operating concept, with two larger 13.1-inch screens of the MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System and two new detachable MBUX remote controls – one for each rear seat passenger – allowing fully individual control. With these remotes, they can control the MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment, adjust the volume, set the ambient lighting, configure the rear climate and operate seat functions such as adjustment, heating, ventilation and massage, and even close the opaque roller blinds on the rear window and side windows for privacy whenever desired. The remotes are stored in a docking station with a lock/unlock mechanism in the fold-down armrest or Business Console, yet remain fully operable when removed – allowing passengers, for example, to recline the seat, start a massage and adjust the temperature while selecting content on the rear screens, without needing to reach for a display.

The latest update also introduces an enhanced Teams Meetings app for the S‑Class, now with expanded features and, for the first time, the ability to use the new front interior camera with a wide-angle option or the MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment full HD camera for video calls while driving. This means that whether you’re leading a meeting from the driver’s seat or joining a video conference in the rear, other participants can see you clearly – enabling seamless collaboration and a professional presence on the move. Use of the camera complies with the laws of each country and is approved for use on the move. The camera can also be turned off at any time. With this innovation, the S‑Class transforms every seat into a connected workspace, making it the ideal choice for executives who value productivity and comfort, wherever they sit.

Personalised infotainment: MBUX Zero Layer and new operating concepts

With the standard MBUX Superscreen, the S‑Class offers a wealth of genuinely valuable functions. The operating and display concept is tailored not only to the vehicle, but also to individual customer preferences, following the design principle of reduction to the essentials. The enhanced MBUX Zero Layer on the central display shows the most important information and suggestions. In the app grid, apps can be moved and grouped into individually named folders, similar to how it can be done on a smartphone. When an app is open, a simple swipe to the left returns to the app grid. Another swipe takes the user back to the Zero Layer. Alternatively, they can still access the Zero Layer directly at any time via the home button.

Several attractive ambient styles are available via a dedicated app, enhancing the unique effect of the wide display. The UI designers at Mercedes‑Benz have crafted these high-resolution welcome animations with great attention to detail. The impressive background images span a wide range across all front screens – from calm to intense, cool to warm and technical to emotional – enabling users to create a personal atmosphere inside the vehicle. The colours of the instrument cluster, including the tubular gauges, and the ambient lighting are harmonised with these emotional motifs thanks to MB.OS.

MBUX Surround Navigation with intuitive 3D graphics

Integrated visual communication reaches a new dimension with MBUX Surround Navigation. Thanks to the deeply integrated architecture of MB.OS, the advanced navigation system, shows a real-time view of the vehicle and its surroundings. The system seamlessly combines the driving assistance view with a 3D representation of the surroundings and route guidance on the driver display, showing other road users such as cars, bicycles, motorcycles and pedestrians. The integration of information into the driver display using 3D game-engine graphics provides a highly intuitive overview.

The MBUX Virtual Assistant with “Multi Agent Approach”: Intelligent, easy to talk to and empathetic

With generative AI, the new MBUX Virtual Assistant[1] revolutionises the relationship between vehicle and driver. It enables complex, multi-turn conversations – like one would have with a friend – and has a short-term memory. It can be activated with the keyword “Hey Mercedes” or, if travelling alone, the “Just Talk” function, which responds to voice commands without a keyword. Based on ChatGPT4o and Microsoft Bing search, the MBUX Virtual Assistant brings together a wealth of knowledge from the internet. It can remember context and switch between the Google Gemini Automotive AI Agent and ChatGPT, depending on the subject at hand. This means users can continue conversations and retrieve information seamlessly as they drive.

The MBUX Virtual Assistant is always present on the Zero Layer as a “living” avatar in the form of the Mercedes star. In the default setting, it is blue, or silvery blue with the AMG Line. The colours in the avatar represent the emotions of the MBUX Virtual Assistant. For example, it reacts positively to “thank you” (green) or shows joy when telling a joke (colourful). With various animations, the Virtual Assistant also signals whether it is currently speaking, listening or processing information. Movement, brightness, intensity and colour interact seamlessly to communicate intuitively with the driver.

In addition to the star avatar, there are two new representations of intelligence: the first is a human-like avatar, which emerges from a condensing cloud of stars. It embodies intelligence in a technologically futuristic way. The second new avatar, nicknamed “LittleBenz”, with its expressive face, allows for an even stronger connection on a personal level. Its lively form invites inspiring interaction.

Turn every journey into a cinema night

Currently, over 40 apps[2] can be installed across categories, including audio, video, productivity and entertainment. The portfolio is constantly expanding. For the first time, user-specific app folders can be created.

Audible and Amazon Music subscribers can access the full catalogues of both streaming services.

Your favourite concert hall, with a fourth dimension of sound

The optional Burmester® 3D surround sound system, now visually enhanced with elegant silver speaker caps in the mirror triangle, special Burmester® algorithms and additional speakers integrated into the headliner create authentic 3D surround sound, so music feels as if it is unfolding all around you rather than just coming from the doors. Each speaker is actively controlled using advanced digital signal processing, resulting in exceptionally expressive, detailed and natural sound.

At the top of the range, the Burmester® High-End 4D-Surround-Soundsystem adds a unique fourth dimension: tactile transducers integrated into the seats vibrate and pulse in time with the music, so you can literally feel your favourite tracks. With up to 39 speakers, four exciters, 1,690 watts of system output and Dolby Atmos®, the S‑Class offers an in-car audio experience that ranges from a refined concert hall to an intimate club – all at the touch of a button.

Replacement of conventional car key possible: Digital Vehicle Key available for smartphone and smartwatch

With the Digital Vehicle Key, the S‑Class can be started and locked simply by the driver carrying a compatible phone or smartwatch. Key sharing is also possible: various digital channels can be used to invite family members or friends to use the S‑Class. In doing so, the main user of the Mercedes me account can assign different rights, granting only access to the vehicle or also allowing it to be driven.

The capacitive switch panels are seamlessly integrated and provide tactile aids for better orientation.

The centre console is always finished in high-quality trim. It is designed for everyday practicality, with two easily accessible mobile phone compartments and a generous storage area. Two mobile phones can be charged wirelessly side by side. The new illuminated cup holders, with their lit retaining lugs, provide an improved hold for cups and bottles of different sizes and add a subtle ambient light accent.

A warm embrace: innovative seat belt heating also increases safety

A new feature of the two thermal comfort packages is innovative seat belt heating for the front seats – an upgrade that enhances the feeling of wellbeing on board. According to test participants surveyed during development, the pleasantly warmed seat belt feels like a gentle embrace. Heating wires – thin filaments acting as electrical conductors – are integrated into the seat belt. At low temperatures, the belt quickly warms up to 44 degrees Celsius. The seat belt heating can be conveniently switched on and off using the seat heating button, and the automatic activation can be controlled via the central display. Seat belt heating can also increase safety, as occupants feel motivated to take off their thick jackets before buckling up, making the seat belts more efficient in case of an accident.

With seat belt heating, Mercedes‑Benz brings a new comfort feature into a series production vehicle that was first showcased in the ESF 2019 experimental safety vehicle. This illustrates the Mercedes‑Benz way: pioneering innovations debuting in research and concept vehicles, then consistently and systematically transferred into series production. For more than 140 years, this continuous innovation process has shaped the brand – from visionary studies to everyday customer benefit.

As if by magic: Automatic vent adjustment with Digital Vent Control

The S-Class takes a major step forward in climate comfort with Digital Vent Control, an innovative system that automatically adapts the air vents – both front and rear – to the desired ventilation scenario. Up to eight individual positions can be stored and activated via the MBUX Virtual Assistant[1] – for example, a “focused driver” profile that directs cool air gently to the face, or a “rear relaxation” setup that warms the rear passengers without a draft. Technically, the system utilises compact actuators in each ventilation duct, featuring two small electric motors per vent to control the vertical and horizontal louvres. Digital Vent Control is already included in the front compartment in combination with the standard THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control system.

The operating concept is hybrid. Adjusting the vent nozzles by hand is still possible. Seat-related presets can be selected via the user profile and even allow for pre-conditioning of the interior. Three functions enhance climate comfort: customers can select presets for the air vents in MBUX (“Focus head”, “Torso”, “Individual” and “Diffuse”). Seat-related personalisation of the vent position is also possible. If the vent nozzles are adjusted manually, the menu item automatically switches to “Individual”. The system saves this individual setting and stores it in the user profile. With Active Defrost for the side windows, the vent nozzles are set in the direction of the side windows – a feature also available for the rear centre nozzles on request.

This is a unique S‑Class innovation, as are these three additional functions: the airflow is directed to hot or cold surfaces during pre-conditioning; the nozzles become part of the welcome sequence by moving from their default position when the vehicle starts; and in chauffeur mode, rear seat nozzles can be controlled from the front by the driver.

Fresh air in every situation: New electric filter for cleaner cabin air

Whether in dense city traffic or tunnels, the new S-Class continuously works to clean the air you breathe - fully renewing the cabin air roughly every 90 seconds.[2]. At the heart of the system is an advanced multi-stage filtration concept with an electric filter, which helps ensure very clean air and can further reduce unpleasant odours. The incoming outside air is cleaned particularly effectively of unpleasant and harmful components with the help of the multi-stage filtration concept. In the first stage, the outside air flows through a pre-filter to retain coarse particles from the air path. Subsequently, an electric filter ionises fine-dust particles and thus enables excellent filtration at the interior filter. While the pre-filter in the first filtration stage only cleans the outside air, the interior filter is also active in recirculation mode.

ENERGIZING AIR CONTROL intelligently monitors air quality inside and outside the vehicle using fine-dust and air-quality sensors. It intelligently networks sensor data and thereby detects nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO), as well as fine dust of particle size PM2.5 in the outside air. If the measured values of the air-quality and fine-dust sensor reach a certain range, the climate control system automatically switches between fresh-air and recirculation mode.

From focused workday to private lounge: Personalised seat comfort front and rear

For optimal seating comfort and individual adjustment, the front seats of the S‑Class feature up to 19 motors, providing a personalised experience. Six different massage programmes – classic, relaxing, waves, deep waves, hot stone and activating – use vibration motors and can enhance the effect of a relaxing hot-stone-style massage by combining seat heating with the inflatable air chambers of the active multicontour seats. Because the air chambers sit close to the seat surface, the massage effect is particularly tangible.

In the rear, five newly bundled seat packages allow the S‑Class to be configured even more precisely as a mobile workspace or a place of retreat, according to personal preference:

  • Fixed rear seats as standard with optional seat heating

  • Electrically adjustable rear seats: Backrest adjustable up to 37°; Rear Seat Memory Package; luxury head restraints with additional cushioning; PRE-SAFE® positioning function; centre armrest with double cupholder; front passenger seat electrically adjustable from the rear

  • Rear Comfort Package: includes designer belt buckles in the front and rear, climatised seats and THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control, a wireless charging system for mobile devices, an MBUX remote control, rear airbags and sidebags, as well as two USB-C ports — all in the rear

  • Rear Comfort Package Plus: includes the Rear Comfort Package and adds the Rear Massage Package, the Chauffeur Package (chauffeur position for front passenger seat, EASY ADJUST head restraints in front, electrically extendable footrest on the back of the front passenger seat), the Sun Protection Package, belt feeders, the Executive seat with backrest adjustable up to 43.5° (for the long-wheel base), right rear seat leg rest adjustable up to 50°, adaptive rear-compartment lighting and the beltbag

  • First-class rear compartment with four seats: full-length rear business centre console; front section with electric cover hiding a double temperature-controlled cupholder; rear section of the business console with storage compartment under the armrest (underneath, wireless charging system for mobile devices in the rear, four fast-charging USB-C ports and a 12V socket); armrest with storage compartment for MBUX remote controls; continuous trim section from the rear shelf to the centre console; extensive integration into ambient lighting including the storage compartment

Arrive more relaxed than when you set off

With its high level of ride and acoustic comfort, as well as a comprehensive range of ENERGIZING COMFORT programmes, the S‑Class is dedicated to the well-being of its passengers. Innovations include massage functions based on vibration motors in the seat cushion and the body sound transmission of the Burmester® High-End 4D Surround Sound System, which makes deep tones physically perceptible. This direct transfer of sound into the seats adds a fourth dimension to the already three-dimensional listening experience – true 4D sound, inspired by sound-bowl massage. The tactile intensity can be individually adjusted for each seat via two tactile transducers (exciters) integrated into the backrest, making the music experience even more emotional. ENERGIZING seat kinetics, which debuted in the S‑Class, supports gentle adjustments to the seat cushion and backrest angle, helping to stretch and relax muscles and improve circulation during longer journeys.

Active Ambient Lighting (optional) adds an extra, experiential layer to the standard ambient lighting. With approximately 250 LEDs, it is linked to the driver assistance systems and can visually support their alerts. It also provides feedback when operating the climate control or the “Hey Mercedes” voice assistant. The result is a truly unique interior atmosphere by day or night, turning every journey in the S‑Class into a personalised feel-good experience.

By refining drivetrain technology, suspension control, and lighting systems, Mercedes‑Benz has enhanced every aspect of the S‑Class driving experience. The result is serene calm paired with effortless power delivery - ensuring agility, composure and the highest levels of safety and comfort on every journey.

New state-of-the-art drivetrains: Meticulous refinement in technology

The new S-Class sets a new benchmark for powertrain sophistication, offering a range of state-of-the art engines that combine performance, efficiency and refinement. At the pinnacle of the line-up is the latest evolution of the V8 engine, the M 177 Evo24F, available in the Mercedes‑Benz S 580 4MATIC Saloon long version. This engine delivers 395 kW (537 hp) and 750 Nm of torque, available across a broad rev range from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm. Thanks to a series of engineering enhancements — including a refined injection system, optimised intake and exhaust ports, a revised intake camshaft, and improvements to the compressor wheel and turbocharger housing — the V8 responds more quickly, operates more efficiently and delivers power more smoothly than ever before. A flat-plane crank with a new firing order reduces rotating mass and internal vibrations, allowing the engine to rev more freely and deliver power with greater immediacy and refinement. Integrated mild-hybrid technology provides additional torque at low speeds, enables energy recuperation during braking, and supports seamless engine restarts, all while contributing to the S‑Class’s signature quietness and smoothness. Additional insulation measures further reduce noise, vibration, and harshness, ensuring a tranquil cabin environment even under acceleration or at high speeds. The V8 is also equipped with advanced exhaust aftertreatment systems, including a globally standard particulate filter, to ensure compliance with the latest emissions standards.

The six-cylinder petrol engine (M 256 Evo)26F in the Mercedes-Benz S 450 4MATIC Saloon long version and Mercedes-Benz S 500 4MATIC Saloon long version now responds even more dynamically and delivers an even more assured driving experience, thanks to increased torque – especially in the partial load range. The rated torque has risen up to 600 Nm; with up to 640 Nm available using overtorque. Overtorque means a short-term increase in torque value to provide the driver with more tractive force in certain driving situations like overtaking or acceleration. These improvements are based on a new, more powerful electric auxiliary compressor, a cylinder head with optimised intake and exhaust ports and a revised intake camshaft. In addition, combustion processes and exhaust aftertreatment have been further refined. Additional insulation measures have also improved NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) characteristics compared to the previous engine. The result is a smoother, quieter and more dynamic driving experience.

The current inline six-cylinder diesel engine OM 656M27F from Mercedes‑Benz has been consistently further developed into the OM 656 Evo for the Mercedes‑Benz S 350 d 4MATIC Saloon long version and Mercedes‑Benz S 450 d 4MATIC Saloon long version, with a focus on meeting the future emissions legislation.

The aim of these measures is to significantly reduce exhaust emissions while simultaneously improving fuel consumption and noticeably increasing agility. At the core of this evolution is the first-ever series production use of an electrically heated catalytic converter, which brings the exhaust system into the optimal temperature range early on and ensures efficient temperature maintenance throughout the entire driving cycle. The resulting increase in the effectiveness of exhaust aftertreatment opens up new possibilities for optimising the overall system. The continuous improvement of robustness—such as through active crankcase ventilation, a more resilient Exhaust Gas Recirculation system, an enhanced water jacket in the crankcase, and refined cylinder head cooling—accompanies this development as a proven quality standard of Mercedes‑Benz.

All three engines feature a 17 kW integrated starter-generator. The integrated starter-generator with the petrol and diesel engines provides intelligent support in the low rpm range. In combination with turbocharging, this ensures excellent power delivery. The system includes the 48-volt electrical system, which enables functions such as “coasting”, boost or recuperation and thus significant fuel savings. In addition, the engines start very quickly and comfortably with the help of the ISG so that the start-stop function is almost imperceptible to the driver, as is the transition from “coasting” with the engine stationary to powerful propulsion with engine power. When idling, the intelligent interaction between the ISG and the combustion engine ensures outstandingly smooth running.

The S-Class plug-in hybrid option combines the upgraded six-cylinder petrol engine with a powerful electric motor, delivering up to 430 kW30F of system output - 55 kW31F over the previous engine generation - and up to 750 Nm of system torque in the Mercedes‑Benz S 580 e 4MATIC Saloon long version with EQ Hybrid Technology and Mercedes‑Benz S 450 e Saloon long version with EQ Hybrid Technology.

Petrol particulate filters and pressurised tanks are now standard worldwide. Operation via MBUX is now even more intuitive thanks to a redesigned menu – for example, when programming a departure time for charging or for pre-conditioning the vehicle.

Sublime ride in every condition: quietness, comfort, and intelligent cloud-based damper regulation

Every journey in the new S‑Class is a statement of effortless composure and benchmark refinement. Imagine gliding through city streets or sweeping along country roads — the flagship saloon delivers quiet strength and supreme comfort that redefine what it means to travel first class.

Now standard across the entire S-Class range, 4.5° rear-axle steering transforms manoeuvrability and stability. Picture navigating tight urban streets or parking in a cramped garage — the rear axle turns up to 10° optional, reducing the turning circle to 10,8 metres for superior agility. And when the road opens up, the same technology enhances high-speed stability, giving you calm confidence at every pace.

The new S‑Class is equipped with the AIRMATIC air suspension system featuring intelligent damper regulation, which provides significantly more comfort on the long speed bumps which, are particularly common in southern Europe and the USA. With intelligent damper regulation activated, the damping is electronically adjusted just before the respective speed bumps, enhancing comfort. The improvement in ride quality is particularly noticeable for rear-seat passengers. The system differentiates between short, sharp road irregularities such as potholes—which are detected and communicated as warnings — and longer speed bumps that induce vertical body movement, where proactive damping adjustment can measurably enhance comfort. Speed bumps are detected via dedicated vehicle sensors and stored in the Mercedes‑Benz Intelligent Cloud for up to 14 days, allowing the system to prepare the suspension in advance whenever another equipped vehicle approaches the same obstacle. The intelligent suspension control can be combined with both the standard AIRMATIC air suspension and the optional active E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL suspension. This function was developed in-house by Mercedes‑Benz and has been patented.

The damping adjustment is based on Car-to-X information19F32F[8] from other Mercedes‑Benz vehicles, which have transmitted data in real time via the mobile network to the Mercedes‑Benz Intelligent Cloud. Car-to-X denotes communication between vehicles and with traffic infrastructure. By leveraging the sensors of other cars, the technology significantly extends the coverage of the vehicle’s own radar and camera systems, effectively allowing the vehicle to look around the corner.

The active E‑ACTIVE BODY CONTROL suspension (optional) can regulate spring and damping forces individually at each wheel, counteracting not only roll, but also pitch and lift movements. E‑ACTIVE BODY CONTROL not only ensures an exceptional level of comfort, in the event of an impending side impact, the system can also raise the body within fractions of a second. This is a feature of PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side, designed to reduce the load on occupants.

The S‑Class also leads the way when it comes to aeroacoustics. Its high body rigidity forms the basis of outstanding acoustic and vibrational comfort. To achieve the refined, unobtrusive engine sound experienced in the cabin, the firewall insulation extends into the side of the A-pillars and the floor area.

Smarter night driving with next-generation DIGITAL LIGHT

On dark roads or in challenging weather, the new DIGITAL LIGHT system in the S‑Class adapts instantly, delivering up to 40 per cent more illumination, sharper precision on curves, and greater efficiency for confident, safe night journeys. S‑Class models now feature the next generation of DIGITAL LIGHT with micro-LED technology. A powerful chip is used in the lighting module, increasing the high-resolution illumination field by around 40 per cent and enabling a significant increase in brightness. At the same time, energy consumption is cut by up to half when compared with the predecessor system. The headlamp units themselves also conserve resources. They retain the same customer experience, yet their weight has been reduced by more than a quarter. This is thanks to a more compact micro-LED design and the use of a single control unit. All software modules are integrated into the Mercedes‑Benz Operating System (MB.OS) and have been developed predominantly in-house.

A key innovation is the dynamically swivelling ULTRA RANGE high beam, which no longer shines simply straight ahead but now adjusts its direction. The partial-high-beam, now also available in the U.S., operates even more robustly as detection of poorly lit road users has been further improved. Thanks to combined camera data and map information, the cornering light reacts even more precisely to the road’s layout.

DIGITAL LIGHT with projection function is available either as a factory-fitted optional extra or as a Digital Extra[9] via the Mercedes‑Benz Store. Alongside the familiar projection features for wrong-way driving and lane departure warnings, the S‑Class now adds a new cold-weather warning with which a snowflake is projected onto the road surface. The construction zone light has evolved into a narrowed lane light, activating automatically on all types of roads when a reduced lane width is detected. DIGITAL LIGHT with projection function also communicates with the driver: the headlamps and taillights react with a brief light show when the vehicle is locked, unlocked, or the engine is switched off. The animation function can be activated or deactivated via MBUX, with the “Digital Rain” and “Star Wave” lighting shows now available in a fresh design.

Mercedes-Benz has already tested this lighting technology for the S‑Class in its new light tunnel at the Immendingen Testing and Technology Centre, officially inaugurated in early 2025. Regardless of the time of day or weather, experts there can evaluate the headlamp light distribution of future Mercedes‑Benz models from a customer perspective under reproducible conditions. The drive-through light tunnel, over 100 metres long, features a full-scale country road with dashed centre lines and side markings – making it one of the longest facilities of its kind in the automotive industry.

Safety: updated restraint system for our safety flagship

The S‑Class has consistently been at the forefront in terms of safety. The updated model has further improved its adaptive restraint system and now features PRE-SAFE® Impulse seat belt pretensioners and dual-stage load limiters for the front seats, dual stage airbag inflators for the driver and passenger airbags, and an active vent in the passenger airbag as standard. Additionally, a passenger kneebag complements the suite of safety systems, all as a global standard. With further optional airbags available for the rear occupants, this now adds up to a maximum of 15 airbags. The airbag control unit calculates which airbags may provide a benefit in the individual situation, and it will only deploy those airbags that can give a benefit. The added components contribute to an even more elevated level of occupant safety, as the setting of the restraint systems can be more individualised.

Rear seat passengers can enjoy the comfort of the soft and smooth beltbags in their daily drive. The shoulder part can inflate in a severe frontal impact, thereby helping to reduce load peaks on the chest by tripling the area of the seatbelt along the chest. The S‑Class continues to offer another extraordinary safety feature for the rear seats, so-called rear airbags. Rear airbags are designed to improve the safety level in a severe frontal impact. The rear airbag can help to reduce the loads acting on the heads and necks of occupants on the outer rear seats.

Another highlight is PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side in the first row. This is the only pyrotechnical restraint system that already deploys shortly before the side impact, as it can help to bring the occupant into a more favourable position before the car is hit on the side. Models with the optional E‑ACTIVE BODY CONTROL active suspension can then also elevate the level of the car, which can help to reduce the deformation by distributing the loads of the impact to the particularly stiff lower part of the body.
