Autocar raccoglie le dichiarazioni del capo della ricerca e sviluppo Audi, le quali rivelano come il progetto della A2 sarebbe definitivamente in fase di lancio.

La vettura è attualmente ad uno stadio di Concept e sarebbe stata già mostrata ai piani alti Audi.

In sostanza si tratterebbe di un modello che richiama nella filosofia la precedente A2, ma che ne è esteticamente molto differente.

Inoltre, a differenza di quanto suggerirebbero le sigle, la A2 non sarebbe un modello più grande della A1 (che comunque arriverà prima), ma al massimo delle stesse dimensioni e con uno stile del corpo vettura differente.

E' sicuro che non sarà basata sulla UP, come ipotizzato da alcune riviste nei mesi passati. Sarà comunque basata su una piattaforma del gruppo Volkswagen perchè, testuali parole, "non faranno lo stesso errore commesso con A2, facendo tutto da soli". Visto l'andazzo delle piattaforme in casa VW, probabile che si tratti di una delle configurazioni del pianale "trasversale" che coprirà quasi tutto dal segmento B al segmento D.

Altro elemento importante della A2 è l'intenzione di farla nascere da subito con una versione 100% elettrica.

Audi A2 supermini is reborn

The plan to launch a successor to the Audi A2 has reached the concept car stage, with a design for the car being shown inside Audi’s Ingolstadt HQ, according to the firm’s R&D chief, Michael Dick.

The new car will “be recognisable as an A2 but very different from the old car”, said Dick. However, the Audi A2 will not be launched this year.

Audi wants to release an electric A2 at the same time as the conventionally powered model, so the car’s design and engineering is taking longer than it would for a normal small hatchback.

“We will not make the same mistake as with the first A2 and do it all by ourselves,” said Dick. “We also want to build an electric version straight away. That has consequences. At the moment you think up a car and make it electric afterwards. With that car [the A2], things go the other way around.”

The Audi A2 will not be based on the VW Up platform that’s currently under development and due to be launched next year. Instead, it will use what Dick described as “a group platform of the next generation” and fits between the forthcoming A1 supermini and A3. “It’s bigger than the Up — at least as big as the A1, but with a different body style.”

Audi has no plans to build its own version of the Up in the near future. “For now the A2 has our priority,” said Dick. “And we also have to introduce the A1.” But he said if the firm were to produce a vehicle based on the Up, it would have to be electric.

“For Audi and its ‘Vorsprung durch technik’ philosophy the Up would only work if it was electric,” he said. “It would have to be different from the VW and would clearly have to be premium. We are looking with interest to Toyota and what it is doing with the iQ. It also wants to be premium.”

In sostanza pare proprio che si tratterà della versione MPV della A1, probabilmente con un estetica a se (per quanto ci si possa aspettare su un Audi :twisted:) e qualche caratteristica originale estetica e tecnica, a richiamare l'antenata.

Vi risparmio il pessimo PS di AUTOCAR.

questa da quello che ho capito diverrebbe il mpv della A1

Comunque a me la vecchia piaceva moltissimo, molto di più di classe A. Peccato che comunque fosse molto (troppo) particolare per la clientela audi e del segmento in generale.

Non è assolutamente lo stile Audi

Audi is currently planning a new A2, company boss Rupert Stadler has told Autocar.

"As we gave the A1 that nomenclature there’s clearly room for another product and another concept between the A3," he admitted.

Stadler wouldn’t be drawn on what exactly a new A2 could be, but admitted that it would be an obvious propostion.

"If you don’t have to explain a car like the A2 then it works," he said.

However other insiders have admitted that the A2 is likely to be an ‘E2’: an electric car based on the the A1 but with a unique bodystyle and look.

Stadler also quashed rumours that Audi was planning a car based on the VW Up!, possibly badged A0, saying that there was no possibility of the company slotting in a car under the forthcoming A1 supermini, which will be launched at the Geneva motor show in March.
