Volkswagen will use the XL1's hybrid powertrain for the Up! Hybrid due in about two years.The recently unveiled limited production version of the XL1 will serve as a foundation for the hybrid version of theUp! city car due in at least 18 months, according to VW. The very economical XL1 has a two-cylinder 0.8-liter TDI engine with 47 hp (35 kW), a 27 hp (20 kW) electric motor and a 5.5 kWh battery.

The same setup in the Up! Hybrid should grant a fuel consumption of approximately 1 liter / 100 km (235.2 mpg US / 282.4 mpg UK). The hybrid version of the Up! is estimated to have a curb weight of less than 1,000 kg (2,204 lbs).

The battery pack will be installed in the rear and will be charged during coasting and braking. In electric mode it should have a 30-mile (48.2 km) range.

For the moment there aren't any details about pricing.

Recentemente sono stao in una Up! come passeggero. Non mi sono messo a palpeggiare in giro (e neanche il resto era da palpeggiare ) pero' sono rimasto estremamente impressionato dalla esemplare maniera in cui assorbe le asperita' e dal comfort trasmesso (per una vettura di questa categoria). Non ho provato la nuova panda, ma rispetto alla classic e' un gradino sopra.

Una versione ibrida, con ulteriori vantaggi sulla insonorizzazione, ne eleverebbe ancor di piu' queste ottime caratteristiche.

Credo che questo dimostri che l'impostazione non è così "trio lescano" come l'apparenza suggerirebbe.

Sul confronto con Panda... non le ho provate, ma tenendo conto che Panda Classic è del 2003 mi sembra tutto sommato il minimo che tutte le più recenti (Nuova Panda, Up!) abbiano fatto qualche passo avanti nel comfort -esento da questa mia "pretesa" solo le autentiche low cost come Pixo ecc.

Ma ripeto, non so se tutte lo hanno fatto davvero questo "doveroso" passo avanti.
