When Mazda introduced the 2016 MX-5 a week ago, the company held back on the car's specifications. However, a new report is shedding light on those all important details.

According to Motoring, the redesigned roadster will tip the scales at just 1,020 kg (2,248 lbs). This figure is presumably from the entry-level model but if it's correct, it means engineers have succeeded in making the car at least a 100 kg (220 lbs) lighter than its predecessor.

Besides revealing the weight, the report says the entry-level model will be powered by a 1.5-liter SKYACTIV-G four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 128 bhp (96 kW). There's no word on how much torque it will produce but it expected to churn out more than 144 Nm (106 lb-ft).

Mazda is expected to release more information at the Paris Motor Show, so stay tuned for full details.
