I will check the month of that Gente Motori issue where the spy photos came from, but I am not sure could be enough to tell when they made... must see if they put on the magazine quickly because was a hit or they planned to show later with more info.

We saw weeks ago, Lancia Dedra first prototype on the road was on Quattroruote during summer 1986, but the same photo was on a spanish magazine in April.

Reading Quattroruote you could think they made the photo during the last weeks, the truth were already three months old.

Anyway, I will check.  

io ricordo di aver visto la scocca nuda della sprint spider su un numero di autosprint in cui andarono a  "sbirciare" nei capannoni del portello ormai dismessi ed arrivarono alla conclusione che era una X1/9 brutta e che non avrebbe avuto successo

 

ricordo poi , forse , schizzi o bozzetti su 4R o gente motori tipo "le novità di quest'anno" il classico numero che trovavo nella calza della befana in cui c'erano i disegni dei modelli che sarebbero arrivati

No, tonale soprattutto nella versione sprint ha i geni dei frontali Alfa Romeo anni 90

the pics about 'Sud Spider were on Gente Motori - October 1977. But I wouldn't put all my money on. I mean, GM  spy history is full of behind the scenes agreement, like "hey my private James Bond caught your new model on the street yesterday.... what we gonna do?" then the answer, according to the management, sometimes was "oh, you can show, it's fine" or "please don't, we buy some advert pages or a cover"

As example I remember a talk with a retired Alfa Romeo tester who told me "you know, sometimes with Gente Motori was going this way... they call the magazine and tell them 'If tomorrow at 2 PM you go in that place you will se something', because they were looking for the news about what they were doing."

"They called the magazine and then they told me I had to go there at 2 PM with a disguised 164 Super, and I found a man with a camera"

Now... I guess those Spider pics were made in Balocco, when in some places was still possible to spy. That kind of pics always been a violation so... maybe they made the photos just before of the print of the magazine, maybe they made before and they wrote the article when was the right moment.

Yes, Alfasud was planned for the USA market and 1300 and 1500 FI engines were tested. If I'm not mistaken 2 cars (TI) were sent to Alfa Romeo Inc (USA) for tests, and homologation. The Alfasud was officially announced by the management of Alfa Romeo Inc and planned for 1978-79. The same happened with Alfasud Spider, - officially announced as well. But in the last moment something happened and Sud was cancelled. The same happened with Alfa Sei. Alfa Romeo Inc even created a concourse for the best name of the new model but...

 

Also Alfa Romeo/Alfasud the same time was in the negations with the Soviet Union. After first unsuccessful attempt to build Giulia in the USSR (we all know that FIAT 124 won), AR management wanted to build a front wheel drive car in Moscow (Moskwitch factory) The agreement was almost signed but Chrysler won with a newer SIMCA

Alfasud Sprint 6C (1983)
Nell’ambito dell’attività di ricerca e sviluppo legata alle competizioni, nel 1982 l’Autodelta realizza un primo prototipo di un’Alfasud Sprint equipaggiata con il motore “V6” da 2,5 litri (lo stesso della GTV 6) da 158 cv, collocato in posizione centrale posteriore longitudinale: la vettura viene denominata “Sprint 6C” e, anche grazie al peso di soli 990 kg, “vola” a 215 km/h.

Le sospensioni anteriori rimangono invariate mentre al posteriore viene adottato uno schema a ruote indipendenti, le carreggiate vengono allargate, l’abitabilità è limitata a soli due posti. Plancia e cruscotto sono quelli dell’Alfasud Sprint, arricchiti con finiture pregiate. Alcuni elementi estetici della carrozzeria anticipano la nuova gamma “Sprint” presentata nell’83: gruppi ottici anteriori e posteriori, calandra, paraurti e retrovisori.

Viene poi realizzato un secondo prototipo della Sprint 6C, molto simile al primo, con un pianale predisposto ad accogliere l’albero di trasmissione della trazione integrale per un eventuale impiego agonistico nel Gruppo B dei rally: l’Alfa Romeo però decide di rimanere focalizzata sulle competizioni in pista e il secondo esemplare della Sprint 6C resta un esercizio tecnico.
